Default Car on 2 post lift backwards: More stability

I'm sure others put their 993's on two post lift backwards also. I just did it with mine to do some routine maintanence.

Car is way more stable backwards than when you put it on like you do with regular front engined cars.

Lift is assemetrical so with weight where it is now is where I think it should be based on the design of the lift.

yes!
Absolutely the way it needs to be done on 911s.

You can also remove the arms and reverse them...

Nice garage

+993. I'm surprised that you got away from doing it the other way. It's a formula for disaster.

I did it the wrong way.
Took pictures and asked questions at porsche in germany (maniac).
Bought the exact same lift they use (again x 2).
Mounted it the same way (sides) they did (eh?).
Center of gravity should be closest to poles I read.
Front rear center weight of car is at bottom front of driver seat backrest
or 2/3 1/3 between wheel basis. 1300 lbs front/1900lbs rear
Although mine is hanging without engine now, very stable and doesn't move
excuse the mess please

My lift is symmetrical so it does not make a difference which way. i also widened the stance of the list by 14" to give more room for the doors so they can open well, and let the arms hit the mount points with balance in mind. I also have a heavy lift, its rated at 9000 lbs (can lift my F250 SuperDuty with a V10, 4x4, full covered utility box and power tailgate with no issues), so the little 993 come nowhere near straining the lift nor the baseplate anchors.

On a lift that is asymmetrical, I always worry about the front loading of the lift, so I would do what is suggested, and then the engine in balance with the lift as much as possible.

Cheers,

Mike

Wow that garage is my dream. I plan on installing a short shift kit this week, outside with jackstands praying for no earthquake here in Los Angeles
