Question DAS Rollbar Shipping

For those of you that've purchased or sold one of these in the past... How was it packaged for shipping? I'd really like to preserve the paint and not cause any damage...

And about how much did it cost to ship - just trying to get an idea.

It's being sent from Seattle to DC.

Thanks...

Have it wrapped in bubble wrap very well, then tape cardboard around it so it becomes one big tent-like box. Don't be shy with the tape, use very liberally.

The only portion that might get dinged up, since the piece is very heavy, would be the mounting points at the bottom. They won't be noticeable once installed anyway.

I just had one shipped to me via Greyhound and it was wrapped in bubble wrap. The wrap had an outside layer of heavy paper though which protected the bubble wrap - I had not seen this product before but it worked very well. There was no damage to the finish.

Thanks guys... Bubble wrap for sure, will have to find this external wrap. What do you think, the UPS store?

Any idea as to what I should expect for shipping prices?

This is the second time I've heard about the Greyhound deal... is that reliable?? Regularly used?

I've never used Greyhound (living in Manhattan, it's not really an option - if you've ever been to the Port Authority Bus Terminal you know why...) but others swear by it and it should be the least expensive solution. Second least expensive would be FedEx Ground, not UPS Ground. I have accounts w. both FedEx and UPS and for Ground services FedEx beats UPS. It does generally take about a day longer however if you're shipping from coast to coast.

Arun,

When I bought my DAS bar in 2003, I paid FedEx Ground a whopping $33 to have it shipped from Colorado to Maryland.

I'll check out FedEx ground, hopefully it hasn't gone up too much since 2003

I did look into the Greyhound shipping, did a quick quote and it suggested $90. Can't confirm until I talk to them. Hoping FedEx ground is a bit cheaper than that...?

Certz - Just as a comparison, from where to where did you have it shipped and how much was it, if you don't mind sharing...

Florida to Chicago and I think it was about $70. I also bought a 944 Safety Devices full cage for my lemons car and had it shipped from Florida to Chicago for about $80 via Greyhound.

I have shipped seats and other large items through Greyhound and they are usually the cheapest that I find. I have not had an issue with them, but I am sure, like with any carrier, you can find people who have horror stories.

+1

The piece is very stout, but the mounting points will take a beating.

Nothing more you can do, to preserve the finish, than be liberal with tape and bubble wrap, as has been stated.

FRom coast to coast is going to be the most expensive rates. Why not contact DAS & ask them how they ship? Greyhound might be the cheapest.

I found mine locally, seems like there are a surplus of these in Seattle.

WHen I bought mine, the seller just wrapped it up in a couple of layers of bubble wrap and slapped a UPS envelope on it. $40 NJ to StL, MO.
