Default Carnewal 100/200 Cell Cat Conversions

Gert is selling cat conversions...you send him your 993 Cat and his shop will cut them open, and replace the factory cats with 100 or 200 cell cats. With this set up, you'll pass visual California smog inspection. Price is about $850...you need to supply a core or send them yours.

Hmmmm is it Christmas yet? What a great Valentine's present to me!

I passed visual inspection with my DACH sport cats. I put them in long enough before my next inspection that they had some patina and probably looked perfectly stock to the guy doing the smog check.

Well maybe the price of used stock cats will go up now...

Smile Used Stock Cats...

This may drive the price up...who knows. Glad to hear you passed with DACH sport cats. I'll bet they sound great.

What mufflers do you use?

Stock mufflers. I like the combination, and other people have commented on how good it sounds. To me, it still sounds like a Porsche (some mufflers I've heard have more of a throaty V8 sound, which is cool on a Mustang, but doesn't sound right to me on a 911).

I have 130k miles on my original Cats. Can someone please explain the benefits (or need) to upgrade the cats? I pass CA smog with flying colors, so I guess my cats are in good shape (and are not making any non-wanted noise).

What would 100-cell or 200-cell cats do? Nicer exhaust tone? I have Fabspeeds and factory Cats and it's a perfect combo.

You've got a '95, and can ride it as long as it works. My '97 started throwing a code every 100 miles @ ~125K for bank 2 low efficiency. Performance difference with the replacement (a ~30K mile one from a guy here)? Nope.

Considered cutting in my own cats, and may do this with the old one for the hell of it. Realistically, where is it in the scheme of things to do..........

Smile Maybe, maybe not!

I am not so sure the prices on used cats will be going up. Ken above has put a new spin on the process.

What's an old one worth? The seller and I sort of agreed the one I bought from him was overpriced, I think it was $275 shipped. Claimed 30K, and it sure looked low mileage when I got it. Given what I was looking at on replacement alternatives, and that I HAD to get it done to register the car again this month, seemed fine by me.

(Yeah, I'm fully aware installation of a used cat in CA is a no-no. If anyone wants to know my opinion of the CARB, it's probably not hard to figure out.)
