On a serious note...
I’ll just say that I currently use Mobil 1 15/50... and am considering switching to Brad Penn 10/40. If I could afford it at $16/qt Mobil 1 racing 0/30 is pretty good too.

Until someone says Mobil 1 15/50 is bad for my car and can prove it, Im sticking with it. There are probably as many myths on oil as drinking laws in Utah. Most which are BS.

Just make sure you change it every 3000 miles---so marketing can prove they are right.

What is it with that state. I was on course in the Orem area, stopped in a Wal-Mart for a case of beer Sunday, and they wouldn't sell it to me...but I could go to a bar next door and have a cold one. Go figure!

I use grapeseed oil due to its higher smoke point than the more tradition olive oil.

Synthetic or Mineral oil?

Then what viscosity should be used?

Thanks
i think your compadres are gently trying to suggest that you use the search function.

I use 5 - 40 here in sunny So. Cal.

Welcome to "Happy Valley" where everything (except for church) closes on Sunday---thats Orem and Provo area for ya. Sunday is a time to go to church, not buy beer at Walmat!! Without diving into religious politics..... No alcohol sales of any kind on Sunday in Provo/Orem---Utah County. Next time, you have to drive about 15 minutes to American Fork, which resides in Salt Lake County---which has no restrictions on Sunday beer sales. A little strange but welcome to Utah.

+ 993.

My beater came with it from the factory, received it during each oil change with the PO, and continues to receive it under my care.

I see no reason to change this.

Interesting,
I had my car serviced by Porsche and they used Mobil 1 0/40, but the previous service centre used mineral oil 20/40, and stated that these engines are oil/air cooled and have great tolerances and should use mineral oil.

So who knows, although it does say in the Porsche manual Mobil 5/40.

I guess it is up to the individual.................

Yes, I have the engine trays fitted, who am I to question the engineering might of the Germans or Porsche

Thanks,
Neil

Other than SPF 2 coconut tanning oil when on holiday, I use Mobil 10W 40 Super S semi-synthetic.

Neil, welcome to the board. I apologize for the many responses from my smart-assed brethren, but there are more threads on oil here than on any other subject (or even all others combined!)

I think that there is little to no consensus. I advise sticking with a high quality brand and changing it every year, even if you do less than 3,000 miles, for example. The 0W-40 is really designed for the current cars, so I'm not surprised that's your Porsche dealer would do. Many here feel that weight is too "thin" for our cars.

If I understand this correctly, there was a period where Mobil 1 removed the ZDDP package that we need, so some of us defected to other brands. Now they put most of the good stuff back in, so it's OK to use Mobil 1 again. Nevertheless, I prefer Brad Penn 20W-50. I'm in a warm climate.

OK, now please close or delete this thread!

I also use Brad Penn 20w50, I get it local from KRS Distributing in Huntington Beach, CA...

Use the Brad Penn or the Mobil 1, just remember to change it annually if you don't hit the mileage limit and if you are really interested in oil then sent your oil out to be analyzed after changing it.

You are right, Neil - it's up to the individual, what does Porsche know about it?
