email me bcaway@yahoo.com if you need any help I will do my best.
RE: Elonash tight rack issue, I would definitely remove the pinion, and check everything, once reassembled you should be able to turn it by hand and check the backlash feel too.

Best way to ensure the links stay good for important things is to store the pictures here on RL...
UserCP --> Pictures & Albums --> Add Album --> Add Pic
And make sure to edit the Album so it is "Public" not private....will save you from the "huh, I know that link works, I can see it, why can't everyone else see it?" issue.

Hello Brian
Thanks for the great write-up and the pictures! With this help I did the rebuild on my car's (LHD) steering rack. Had no problems and works perfect.

i just had my steering rack rebuilt over the last two days. Performance Porsche in San Diego did the r and r. Works like a champ. After watching some of the removal, I am not sure that I was ready to tackle the job, especially without a lift. It seems like a real handful to do it right. Good luck. Phil

According to the step 2 the input shaft plate has 3 screws. I have taken my rack apart and I dont have the 3 screws, so How do disassemble the input shaft?
(rack came out of 6/95 porsche 993

There are 3 screws around the input shaft cover eddie. Not on the input shaft itself. You don't disassemble the input shaft, just pry the seals off using a suitable implement (I used a paper clip). Make sure you don't scratch any surfaces. When you place the new seals in here you have to stretch them a little to fit. THEY DON"T HAVE MUCH GIVE as they're not rubber. You don't want to put a permanent stretch into them.
Trust that helps

Eddie, is your car a LHD ? If yes the very good DIY of Krish will not bring you the matching pictures.
With RHD only 2 screws for the main shaft.
I have had issues with the seals of the input shaft (had to abrase them a little bit because they were dramatically blocking the rotation) and I would strongly reccomend to check if the leaks are coming from this area (shall not, might come from the extremities of the rack), if not don't even try to change them!!!
I also had trouble with the pressure adjusting nut (the big one behind the rack). Almost impossible to put back in the same position, I did almost round it with the wrench as I was putting torque and torque. I tried to freeze it and was half successful (its new position is now about 20° different that before).
You may also think to change pipe seals (not included in the kit). You can find the small ones for the small interconnecting pipes at any building and construction shops (don't know the proper english terms) and the big ones in cupper for the banjos shall be bought at your Porsche dealer (see PET for references).
Finally enjoy the PITA to get the steel ring out of his location at the extremity of the rack
Don't hesitate to ask for more, I spent a lot of hours around this bugger.

Elonnash is right. I got a local shop to take the rack out for me then reinstall it to save me some effort. But it still takes a while to take everything apart then put it all back together. Didn't help that my garage is covered in dog hair and that was getting into everything on reassembly. But when you're done,
Note from my rebuild "At steps 4 and 5 where we are to try and drift the oil seals out from the steel retainer and rack respectively, my seals were stuck solid no matter how hard I tried. I ended up using a drift with a C-Clamp and by tightening the Clamp down, pushed the seals out. It was dead easy that way."
Good luck!
