OT: Kubica narrowly avoids amputation

I hope he can make a full recovery or regain enough use of his hand to continue to drive. Huge loss to Renault.
I presume that means we'll see Bozo the Clown (Grosjean) or possibly Bruno Senna (now that would be strange, seeing that yellow helmet driving a car with John Player Special colours) back in the car, but I hope Renault chooses to buy Nico Hulkenberg out of his Force India test contract.
email for best wishes: fan@kubica.pl (that one bounced back to me, so then I tried m.czachorski@kubica.pl )

what a loss for the sport. He was an extremely talented driver, and one of a few who ever told it like it is.
That will certainly leave Renault in a bind regarding car development.
I hate to say it, but restrictive contracts -limiting outside dangerous activities for top drivers, certainly would have prevented this tragedy. But then again, what isn't dangerous? Webber got seriously injured riding a mtn bike...TWICE.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Robert Kubica for a speedy and FULL recovery.

I hope he recovers and gets well soon.
You sould see the hole in the firewall of the car. Easily put a basket ball through the hole with room to spare. He was speared by guard railing. It took them over an hour just to extract him from the car, which they had to cut off the B-pillar, rear door and most of the surrounding cage.
They were talking about bring Petrov in to replace Kubic.
I guess there is a lot of unknowns at this exact moment. They are expecting to do another surgery shortly.

The teams are pretty restrictive about what kind of risks they want their drivers to take in their spare time. I am sure this will put even more pressure on all drivers to ensure that they are not doing something foolish. There is Millions of dollars at stake, and the driver is a key component in all of it. As we know, Kubica is very, very talented and it is a huge loss for the team.
I hope he'll be back in the drivers seat soon...

He is still in serious condition but has been recovering faster than expected.
I hope he'll be back in his R31 in a few months.
It is miracle he survived the crash and his pilot was not even hurt

wow, he is absolutely lucky to be alive. There is an in car shot of the stage from the camera car that immediately followed Kubica...maybe you have seen it. I saw it on Speed, anyway they come upon the accident minutes after it happened. Spectators alerted the approaching car, and essentially closed the stage.
It was one of the tighest, most guardrail lined stages I have ever seen.
Those photo's are haunting, he is lucky to have survived it. He WILL drive again.
