Default twin turbo vs supercharger

For those of you that have been able to experience both, what is your impression of the 993 twin turbo vs an aftermarket supercharged 993 NB as a reliable daily driver?

Daydreaming......

the blown 993 is a bit livelier at the low end of the rpm range, but tends to flatten out more at the top end. The turbo takes a little bit to spool, but once there, it pulls stronger to redline. Obviously the amount of boost on the supercharged car, and the quality of the setup (ic, bigger injectors vs. 7th injector, etc) will have an effect as well.

Which would I rather have...the turbo. Hard to beat the factory reliability.

NEVER supercharge or try to turbo a NA car. Sell it and get the real thing. You will be MUCH happier in the short and long term ($$$s still in your pocket, car performing well and reliable, and a little thing we call resale). A 993TT with a modest amount of work is easy over 500HP, instant boost, and more than most people can handle...

I like my supercharger. No complaints here. I bought it with the supercharger for the same price as a non-supercharged car (much cheaper than the turbos were going at the time) and love the power. I don't think I would enjoy driving a non-sc'ed 993 now that I'm used to mine.

It may be a modest amount of work, but it sure isn't a modest amount of money if you want a true 500bhp+

The stock motors are not engineered for forced induction, so adding superchargers or turbocharges work, but I do not have great confidence in the long term reliability. If you ever worked on a turbo, things are just more robust. Drivetrain is larger (check out the diameter of the driveshaft to the front of the car...way bigger than a C2). Internals of the engine are designed for the power. Compression is adjusted for the turbochargers. It just goes on and on.

Then again, its about a $25k - $35K difference too....

Cheers,

Mike

I Love my TPC Supercharger!!! Simple, and reliable. My install with extras cost about $12k that got me 322 rwhp and a very big smile... Saw a 993 that had 100k miles on the SC.

What ever you do, good luck!!!

$4k can get you 560HP. Done it dozens of times.

I did not realize this. Much lower cost than I had ever imagined. Does this include labor? What is your rough breakdown? Thanks, Viperbob!.

For $8K can I get 1,120 HP?

I wish that worked on a .14 multiplier

I sure hope the driveshaft to the front on the AWD turbo is bigger than the (non-existant) driveshaft to the front on the RWD C2

(just breaking *****)

yeah Bob, I know you have a lot of experience here, but I'm not seeing that.

From my knowledge, if you start with a stock 400bhp Turbo, you'd need:

1. Turbos...560bhp would need k24s at least, and those run about $3k alone. Add $200 for all the swap parts like exhaust rings, studs, and nuts.
2. Exhaust parts, including cat pipes or deletes and probably muffler deletes. I suppose you could go with the AWE test pipes, so lets call it $650.
3. You'd need some larger injectors, lets call it $300 there
4. Probably need a new fuel pump at $250
5. Diverter valves at $250
6. Tuning...looking at about $1000+ for a reflash by mail or at least that for in person tuning.

So with an ear splitting exhaust, and a hondaish torque curve, you may hit that figure, but you'd be out at least $5700, assuming you can do all the labor yourself.

If you can do it CORRECTLY for $4000, tell me how and I'll do it tomorrow.

I'm sure it is. I haven't spent much time under an NA C4

If you know Bob, you know everything Bob does is done "correctly."
