My 6 speed gear shift is not as tight as I believe it could be,
can anyone advise what components/bushes need to be replaced to make it tight and feel new again?

I am not to sure who FD Motorsport are as I live in Sydney Australia.

Does anyone else know what needs to be replaced in the shift assembly to make it like new?

this is what you need. fortunately it does not make the shift like new, it makes the shift feel like it should have felt when new. F.D. are great to deal with and offer a changeover.Postage to OZ only takes a few days and install only take an hour or so .

If you just want to restore the shifter to new factory feel, there are two ball cups in the guide tube, one at each end, than can be renewed. Just pry out the old one, and press in the new until it is fully seated. The part # is 928-116-145-03. There are four tiny bushings in the shift tower itself that can wear, part # 999-924-002-40.

While you are in there, you may want to install a zip tie or safety wire around front of guide rod to keep it from dropping if the bushing fails.

Steve is the FD modification a great improvement, as I purchased the car secondhand and have no idea, what the gear shift is like on a new 993?
It is that my 325CI BMW is better than the 993, and I was expecting better.

Thanks I have a copy of the PET Catalogue and have looked for the parts, thanks for your help and advise.
I deal with Glenn at Pelican, he has given me fantastic support over the last year.
Pelican are second to none with support and service, I can not fault their service, even when there has been a couple of little issues, all was sorted.

Hi Neill . The FD mod is a great improvement over stock. I never drove a brand NEW 993 but mine had low k,s when I purchased it and the gearchange was sloppy. It is now pretty well perfect. Best value for money I have spent on the car to date. BTW you do not have to go for a SHORT SHIFT to do this mod ,I chose NOT to and am happy with std

Firstly - welcome to another Sydneysider

Secondly - do not go anywhere else - FD is the ONLY place to go for parts - I have tried many others but the support form Darin and Mark is truly second to none - and they are massive gear heads too..... Which makes dealing with them so much easier!!!

928-116-145-03 is a 928 clutch lever part. It is also the ball cup that fits in each end of the guide tube. The 993 catalog doesn't list the ball cup separately, but wants to sell you the entire guide tube or or the removable end (called "angular joint"). I replaced both of the guide tube ball cups in my 993 with part #928 116 145 03. It is exactly the same as the worn factory part I took out.
