Default Sportec Stage 2 3.8L for 993 C4?

Anyone had any experience with this?

http://www.sportec.ch/page3443.html

First hand experience feedback preferred

Couldnt find anything searching, not sure if I missed it. Sorry if this has already been discussed (if so, anyone have the link?)

Cheers
Alex

What makes you think this is a stroker kit?

Artikel Nr: 30 11 02 605

Basis: 3.6l 210kW (286 PS) MKB: M64/20-24
Hubraumerhöhung auf 3.8l
Pleuelbearbeitung
Verdichtungsoptimierung
Zylinderkopfbearbeitung
Spezielle Ventilfedern
Sportnockenwellen
Motorendichtsatz
Auslitern
Zusatzölkühler

Increase in displacement to 3.8 liter
Reworked con rods
Optimized compression ratio
Reworked cilinder heads
Special valve springs
Sports cams
Gasket set
Combustion chamber volume equalisation
Additional oil cooler

It is mentioned nowhere however that the increased displacement is to be achieved through a longer stroke crank.

BTW Sportec have a very good reputation in Europe, Swiss laws are very strict on modifications/safety/emissions which means there's no room for amateurs.

Click the british flag in the top left corner of the website and you will see this:

Performance stage 2 - 3.6l 235kW (320 hp) EC: M64/20-24
Part number: 30 11 02 605

•Engine Base: 3.6l 210kW (286 hp) EC: M64/20-24
Stroker kit for 3.8ltr.
•Modified conrods
•Compression ratio
•Ported heads
•Sport cams
•Gasket kit
•Oilkooler
•ECU upgrade

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Max. Performance:
235 kW (320 hp) @ 6300 RPM
Max. Torque:
380 Nm @ 4750 RPM

Max. Speed:
approx. 287 km/h
Max. Acceleration:
approx. 4.7 Seconds 0-100 km/h

I think the "modified con rods" is the key to the "stroker" kit to increase displacment.

well its certainly one part of it, but you can't just make the rods longer or else they would hit the heads at TDC.

They actually increase the stroke on the crank, and typically shorten the rods.

Therefore, you need both

Thanks everyone for beating me to the clarification.

Ultimately, you have to ask yourself what ~40HP is worth. I'd gladly deal with a stock 3.6L in the yellow car, and give up the whopping 4mph terminal speed down the front straight, if it hadn't come with the car.

Recently, a guy posted some Thunderhill video from a 500+HP 993 turbo, where his top speed was about 8MPH more than my mere 315. Yes, I'm getting off of T15 quicker, and he's not taking it as deep as he could; but any of these engine modifications are terribly expensive for the net gain.

Ah I see....click the Union Jack and things indeed get clear. Interesting approach vs. well known piston / barrel kits.....

Thanks for all the feedback

This mod is pricey. Have read a bit about sportecs reputation but no experienced feedback.

Have been doing more research, and The more I look into it, the more it seems that the best value for money mods for my '95 C4 are:

- Bilstein pss-10 suspension upgrade
- Cup air box/ Steve wong ecu / performance exhaust with sport cats
- reduce weight

Thoughts?

yes, those are good mods.

Also, great bang for the buck are the golden rod from FDM, the chris walrod front LCA bushings, and getting the tie rods "pinned".
