Gentlemen,

I dont auto cross, but like to drive hard every once in a while. How essential is the strut brace? Is the strut brace strictly a performance enhancer, or will it actually extend the longevity of my suspension system?

It does tight things up front somewhat if you have harder upgraded springs / suspension. If you have the OEM original soft suspension, I doubt that you'll see much difference.

It really just adds a bit of steering feel & a little faster turn in.

It will not make anything last longer, or shorter, & it will also add in a little bit of understeer.

We recently had a PCGB 993 tuning tips seminar here in the UK with a number of guest speakers (including a number of well respected 993 specialists/tuners). It was a unanimous "don't bother for road use" from them.

When I changed my Cup1s for Techart Peformance 18" wheels, I HAD to put one on, just so it would pass the TÜV inspection in Germany. Like you say, it probably won't have made that much difference, but least it passed the TÜV

People also like them because they have been known to elliminate or reduce squeaks in the dash area.

That's interesting. I would have thought with low profile tires, stiffer suspension components etc, that bracing would offer some obvious and discernible improvements in handling allowing the springs and shocks to work more efficiently.

Good question/topic. I have heard mixed results but quicker turn in and less dash noise works for me.

The only way to really find out if its in the mind or actually improves things is to have someone take it out of the car without your knowledge and see if you can tell the difference...I'm talking for street use.

You are likely confusing the strut tower brace with steering rack brace that Porsche recommends with 18" wheels on 993s.

There is nothing that relates a strut brace to the wheel size.

For a coupe - probably not. For a cab... it does make some sense on the street.
