PRICE CHECK "Carrera RS" book #316/3000
Hi Listers,
Has anyone here seen the last or recent price for the book: Carrera RS published by Dr. Gruber, I have copy # 316 out of 3000... paid some good $ for it, but will consider selling it, if the price is right... trying to avoid "evil-bay"...

I spent a considerable amount of time looking for this book a couple years ago. One finally became available here. Ended up going on Ebay and sold for BIG $$$. This triggered several more to pop up on ebay with each copy selling for slightly less than the previous.
I think the $1000-$1500 mark is reasonable. If it's perfect then $1500 no problem. Also, as yours is a # that would match an RS chassis #, you may want to post on early911registry to see if you can match book to car.
I compromised and got a brand new German copy, signed by both authors, from Dr. Konradsheim's office just to see what the fuss was all about. Now I want an English edition.

Looks like they may be printing an updated version: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ssible-Reprint
And the thread for matching car to book: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...amp-book-match
Further update: I bought my German-language edition direct from Dr. Konradsheim's office (http://www.konradsheim.at/en/index.html) in February 2009. Brand new, in wrapper, signed by both authors, #0189 for 260Euros.

Timothymoffat,
Thanks for your "heads-up" on the potential price for the book, I checked out the "early registry", which had a lot of comments... too bad you already have the German Edition?
Cheers,
Bert
PS Missed you at the Escape 2010...

I have had my nice very clean english copy #1318 valued by a independant third party at $750usd for insurance purposes. If I were offered around that price I would sell it. I think that was representative of average "sale" prices earlier in 2010 when my collection was valued. The Car & Art edition Porsche 959 book suprisingly is as valuable as the RS book and there are 5-8 volumes of other Porsche specialist books now valued at $350 usd+ including the Project 928 book in english which I adore.
I think if they re print the retail will be around 300 euro. Tim paid 260 euro for one of the last sold by the publisher new and there is no way the good Dr will miss this opportunity to make some return - last time they sold for maybe 250-200usd and then within 2 years of running out were worth 3-4 times that getting to a height on ebay in 2009 of 2700usd when Joanne and Robert on this boards sold theirs - that was a record!
I have found with my book collecting that re releases only have momentary affect on the value of original pressings and eventually this behaviour actually increases the value of first editions. This is what happened with the Porsche Poster Book I have...
Either way along with some rare models these books are one of the best appreciating Porsche investments Ive ever made and if you buy any of these titles be sure that they will not only provide reading pleasure but will reward you financially in years to come as well.
Hope these data points help you...

^^^^^^Well said Macca.
I sent an email to Dr. Konradsheim yesterday enquiring about the new edition/re-release/reprint rumors of this book. His response was that they are most definitely working on a revised copy of this book rather than merely a reprint. I've requested two copies.
FWIW, it's the quality and quantity of information in a book such as this that I find most fascinating. This level of correct information is hard to find in print (911&Porsche World magazine has had numerous technical errors recently. This from a magazine specializing in Porsches.). I am still looking for an English edition of the original Carrera RS book for my personal enjoyment. Santa, I've been a good boy this year..........
PS: Someday I hope there's a book produced on the 964/993RS and their variants with similar attention to detail.

Maccathekiwi,
Thanks for your comment! As Timothy said, you have some real valid points. I also see that the book "Liebe Zu Ich", that I sold for a mere $ 300.00 (years ago) is now fetching around $ 500.00.
We'll see how the present one on Ebay sells at around 7 PM tonight (Mountain time).
I really appreciate your insights both from "Down Under" and at our "Wet Coast" !!!
Merry Christmas to all,
Bert

I think we were all watching that closely.
Two determined bidders is all it takes.
Compared to some of the sales 18 months ago this one was likely reasonable "value" if you want that book. Taking off paypal and ebay fees we are probably talking a net of $920 to the vendor.
Cheers
