The glass is "special" too. It has a plastic channel sttached to it that you can't get separate. Also note that there was a change in the way the rearvierw mirror attached to the glass and you need to provide your VIN to get the correct one.

But yes, finding a good shop to do it will pay in the long run.

So called experts can and do f&ck this up. I wouldn't even consider doing this on my own. As Goofball said, I wouldn't trust this to any on-the-fly glass place either. Experience with this model is important or you will have problems down the road (rust). You wouldn't take your car to Jiffy Lube for an oil change, would you?

I just had All-Star do my windshield. Insurance paid all but my deductible. They were very careful when removing the old glass and only scratched the paint in one small place using their cutting tool (blade). I pointed it out to them and they used a rubber based primer to seal any scratches in the channel area. I QC'ed it prior to installation to ensure nothing was amiss, primed and ready to go. These guys were gentlemen and let me watch and comment on the operation as they went along with no problems. I'm satisfied with the fit and finish. It came out as close to perfect as it could be. There was a plug already attached to the windshield for the rear view mirror and all they had to do was twist to install. Cost was around $1200.00 full retail for the windshield plus $150.00 for the install which included the gaskets, sealent etc.

mine was done by the PO a few years ago and the insurance co got quotes. then he demanded to have OE glass, and it turned out to be cheaper. About $1000. so he bought the glass, had it installed by local specialized porsche shop, and they covered it. so shop around. get oe glass.

I truly do not understand. I had mine done by the local Safelite franchise a few years ago. State Farm paid 100%. There is probably a state-by-state difference.

I don't see why not but its not worth the labor cost saving. I'll probably just supervise when mine gets done. I hope they don't charge extra for that.

Why? You get to make sure you don't have any rust in the channel and get the windshield aligned to your own exacting specs. [/lemonade]

It's not the money I'm worried about. It is having idiots work on my car and totally screw an easy job up and then I have to have it redone.............

I understood that but they are accepting the liability if the glass gets damaged or leaks, etc. Windshields are fragile and I have proven that myself by breaking a few - one while it was out of the car and one trying to remove it.
