After searching I see some are complaining of the Sumis running really narrow. The wheels I am getting are 10.5 rears and most people are having to run 265s to not rub (which is already stretching the tire a good bit)

However if the Sumis run super narrow would I need to step up to 285s? I need to figure out a good balance where Im not rubbing but also I dont have a huge amount of outer lip exposed from a stretched tire as well.



None of these numbers make sense to me. For instance... I know the Bridgestone RE11 fit on a 10.5'' wheel and look good. According to tirerack here are the stats:

Rim width: 9-10.5
Section Width: 10.7
Tread Width: 9.6
Overall diam: 25.3

Then when I look at the HTRZ IIs it says its for 9-10'' wheels but the numbers are almost identical

Rim width: 9-10
Section Width: 10.6
Tread Width: 9.6
Overall diam: 25.4

Am i correct to assume if a tire was going to look super stretched the tread width would read more like 9.2?

I do not know the dimensions but you should stay away from the Sumi IIs. They are significantly worse than the IIIs which are highly praised for good reason

From experience, I know the Sumi HTRZIIs do fit "narrower" than the later HTRZIIIs and other manufacturer's tires of the same size. The sizing of the later HTRZIII seems to be more in line with other manufacturers.

An example to clarify: A 285/30-18 HTRZII mounted on an 18x10 wheel looks a fair bit less wide than a 285/30-18 HTRZIII on the exact same wheel.

that is interesting because the numbers listed for the IIIs is almost exactly the same as the IIs

So how the hell can you tell if a tire runs narrow if the numbers are the same? Im going to be walking a thin line of rubbing/exposing a lip and I dont really want to "guess" if it will be okay.

My old 285-30-18's looked wider than my current HTR-Z111's 295-30-18 with 5mm spacer.

They run narrow, I have 11in wheels and was told by others with the same to run 285's. When I put them on they were WAY too stretched. I had to replace them with 295's which I'm still not completely satisfied with. My advise is not to be conservative, go wider. I wish thet made a 315

unfortunately tirerack isnt very helpful when you have the other factors of suspension/ride height/wheel size. Guys like Bill Verburg on the board here are much more knowledgeable when in comes to things like this

I am having some custom Speedline Daytonas made... with an aggressive offset in the rear. So they are 10.5 instead of 10 to accommodate the larger outer ring. Talking to Macca, he is running 265s on his 10.5'' wheels and still has some rubbing issues. For some reason on 10'' rears 285 is fine... not sure why that is

are you running 225s in the front as well? do they look stretched on an 8'' wheel? Also are you running 30 or 35 on the height? thanks!

One of the biggest issues is the actual shape of the tire, and not just the tread or section width or the recommended wheel width.

I have run tires in 275/35 that fit perfectly and have had 265/35's rub (on the same 10" Wheel). You need to have a look at the shape of the tire. The more squared off the shoulders the more chance of rubbing.

I have some 225's on a set of 8.5" wheels, a set of pirelli's and a set of Yoko's and the Pirelli's look stretched and the Yoko's don't.
