Oh no, not again. Put me back on the 'maybe' list. My steep driveway is all covered again. Taken Christmas day at 10:00 a.m.

I'd love to join depending on if I get my car back in time and the weather cooperates!

Yep...Lots of snow/ice up there on the route right now....Richard Russel and sections of 180 are closed....There's a slight warm-up coming Mon-Wed, but it gets iffy again after that....Not looking good, but it could still go either way.

yes, and it is supposed to continue snowing tomorrow. We just got a couple of inches right now. I'm hoping it will all clear up by Wednesday though.

Always hopeful but since I took that picture at 10:00 a.m. yesterday, 8" more fell. We are really stuck right now. This was a record Christmas snowfall and the most snow since 1993 according to the Asheville news station up here.

Okay....Things are beginning to look better....Richard Russell is still closed, but as far as I can tell, most of the other roads on the route are clear and we still have Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the mid-to-high 40's with Friday sunny and in the mid-50's. This thing may happen yet!

Keep the faith!

Our neighbor in Blue Ridge sent us a few pics of our cabin today - very picturesque, very snowy. Hopefully the roads will improve by this weekend.

Greenville's back to normal as well. There's plenty of sand, salt, and brine on the road though, yuck!

Trey's post is timely...

I got out on the roads around Dahlonega today. They are dry, but littered with gravel and sand and covered with dried salt. The gravel and sand is piled up along the shoulders and the centerlines and the pavement is white with dried salt. There are still some areas along shaded roadways that have some ice on them.

Given that we had 2-3" of snow and the folks in Suches and Blairsville had 8-10" I'd say that everything up there is Dahlonega conditions to a magnitude of 2-3.

Sections of 348 (Richard Russell Scenic) in Union County and 180 in Towns County are still closed...I'd guess that Wolf Pen Gap Road has some ice-covered sections on it as well although it is not closed. 348 and 180 are scheduled to open tomorrow, but "Open" doesn't necessarily mean drivable in a 993.

I realize we have two good days ahead of us but just wanted everyone to know what the situation is with regard to the roads.

I still can't get out from my home here in NC plus my wife now has a bad head cold which will not be better by Friday. I'm out but have a great time guys if you go. The weather is supposed to be sunny and gorgeous!

Everyone listen to Terry. He is very correct and accurate about north GA roads (I'm just 30 minutes from the GA state line), especially the roads with northern exposure. Just thick ice that will not melt (it was 9 degrees yesterday morning), and even if state maintained, loads of grit from brine, salt, gravel, etc... Be careful in the sharp twisties!!

yea.. this isn't looking good unfortunately. There is a ton of salt on back roads here inside Atlanta... I can only imagine what its like up there. Maybe we should try to reschedule in a few weeks after a good rain

Default Roll Call for Friday

Okay, the weather Friday is supposed to be beautiful. I'm thinking I'm going to do some kind of drive, even if it isn't the planned route. Hell, we've done this thing three years running and last year was the only year we actually had a route (Thanks Jim!).

Richard Russell and 180 are closed until Monday so we may have to do some backtracking, but we did that this summer with the Corvette group and it was fine.

Same start time and place....Beer and brats for lunch in Helen at the end.

So, who's in?

Terry

I'm still a maybe. Semi surprise party, apparently I may or may not be able to make it by 9.
