even in the current mechanical condition-considering cosmeric's and options-a two owner car with records is worth what he paid back when. I'm sure you would find many folks right here on this site that would pay $21K+ for this car as it sits today.

If you don't intend on keeping the car, sell it as is. If you can afford to have a second 911, get the 993 fixed, buy the 997, and enjoy. If you need to sell the 993 to finance the 997, IMHO you should simply sell it as is. Since you probably would not get that extra investment back in the sale.

Looks like a very nice car...as I said, a two owner 112K mile car with records, hollow spokes and HB seats worth $21K all day IMHO.

How's the clutch?

If you do sell/trade it, I would be interested in swapping wheels with ya.

If you like the aroma of the interior of a well sorted air-cooled car, flush it, maintain it, and keep it!! Water pumpers won'thave that familiar vintage Porsche scent.

SAI flush is pretty simple, get that done (or do yourself) to get rid of the check engine light whether you keep the car or sell. Forget about the top end rebuild until youre burning alot of oil.

I am the "trusted friend" that Michael mentioned in the first post. First, I agree with everyone that he needs to keep this car. It is a nice car. I have had a ton of cars and I truly miss my 993 the most. I had to sell it to help fund this. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ect-lilly.html

Anyway, my next fun car will be another 993. The one Mike has is a great basis for a fun car. As for a 997, they are also going to be needing maintenance soon as they get older and it will be more $ than a 993. Plus I just dont care for them. I also have first right of refusal on this car (with sport seats and hollow twists) so stay away vultures

How is your power steering fluid level?
Mine groans on hard lefts when that's low (leaking rack...).

+1. Mike, it is the front wheel drive cars (and awd) that need cv's when they make noise turning. I agree with the PS.

Someone mentioned finding the racing guys' wrench in Austin. Dave Moore of MooreSpeed in Austin is as honest and knowledgeable as they come. That's what I'd do if I had to sort this out there.

It sounds to me like you don't LOVE this car and that maybe you want something more modern and easier to live with. The issues you have now will only be followed by others in the next year or two. A 993 is not for someone who is counting and balancing pros and cons. Maybe a 997 is in order if you are posing the question in the first place.

Another option which you might consider is a Cayman S.

Good luck and, I love the color of your 993!

I would get a legit quote on the actual work required, not base my decision on ill-informed speculation about potential work and expenses. Every car will require some maintenance. The concerns you're expressing make me wonder how your 993 made its way through the first oil change.

Beautiful 993. Spend what ever it takes and keep it.

I find the a/c perfectly adequate - you might prefer the Ford Focus however.

Otherwise, the motor runs great and doesn't leak or burn oil. The belts, hoses, etc are in fine condition because scheduled maintenance has been done on the car prior to me owning it. It needs new brake pads and rotors, which I consider not a big deal because I can do that myself. It has stock shocks which I would eventually like to switch to ROW or something else.

Sell the seats and use the money to pay for the needed service. I sold mine for 3700, and got brand new seats for 1k. I then added a ton of mods at zero cost.

Those seats will not add 3k in value if and when you sell.

I agree about Dave Moore at Moorespeed. He did the oil change and some other service and is clearly a pro. Based on the comments above, I plan to bring the car to him later this week for the maintenance and SAI flush.
