Default TIPS....OE exhaust question.

Are these tips correct for the "Motor Sound Package"? I prefer the large ovals and need to knwo so I can a) take them off and chuck them in a lake or b) take them off and chuck them in the attic for long term storage with all other stock parts.

Thanks in advance.

I know the OE "sound package" did have different tips, it's a bit difficult from the angle of your picture, but those look like the OE tips. I have to agree with you as well... I prefer the oval look over the oval/rectangles that differentiate the two exhaust systems.

I believe the OE Motorsound tips are just polished (shiny) versions of the standard (squarish) ones.

And here I thought motorsounds were the square ones.

Yup, the MS tips are the squarish ones pictured above.

Best,

Stealth, are you the original owner? Could a previous owner installed the big oval tips on your car? My experience with Motorsound exhaust tips match what is listed in the Carnewal link - shiny squarish (like the standard) tips.

To the original poster, are the tips on your car shiny square tips? It's difficult to tell from your photo.

I'm really not trying to be argumentative ...just want to get to the bottom of this.

Default MS tips are the square-ish chrome plated tips...

...and Stealth993's tips are stainless big ovals which were a Tequipment accessory at the time listing at $750 for the set.

I've owned a few 993s over the past ten years and have bought and sold a few sets of each over that time.

Minor point on the 1995 993, the original standard/base tip was a small diameter oval tip in the brown-ish/unpolished stainless finish and no motorsound option existed at that time. The square-ish brown-ish/unpolished stainless tips as standard started in 1996 as did the motorsound option.

On page 80 of the 993 parts schematic at www.porsche.com, many tips are listed for the 993. M159 is the motorsound option. Not sure of the numbers for the big ovals which I recall may have had a non-993 part number.

PET lists the "exch optic sound package" tips as the big ovals, 99311198100 and 99311198200, come with the chrome inlet air box

There is an "Engine sound package" option M159 that uses different tips, as per Gerts, 99311125103 & 99311125203 early cars and 99311125111 and 99311125211 96 on cars

Hence the confusion

This is turning into a can of worms.

Might it be that WB & NB have different MS tips? Every WB that I have seen with MS has the big wide oval tips.

I take it the other MS tips are the same shape as the little stock ones, just bigger?
