Default Projector Lens Cleaning Tips (Headlight)

Hello -

I've got the headlights apart for cleaning but -

Does anyone have any tips on cleaning the round glass fish-eye projector lens?

Is it removable? I'd like to get behind it and clean the backside.

One of mine is really foggy. Just cleaning the front of the glass doesn't help much.

I can't think of anything but putting a cloth on a pencil and going through the bulb socket hole. Sure would like to get the reflector part back there as well.

Thank you very much...

I cleaned mine a while back and was unable to remove the lenses from the housing.
I ended up using some really long Q-tips with wooden stems (I got them from work) and some rubbing alcohol. It was kind of a pain but they looked much better when I was done.
Good luck!

New lenses are about $70 each. I'd consider replacing them.

Don't waist your money on new ones, you can clean them through the bulb hole...

I think there is confusion here.

I think the OP is doing this already: http://p-car.com/diy/headlight/

And he is wanting to clean the glass dome (similar to the ones in the foglights first seen on the 4th pic here): https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...hem-shine.html

if the only problem with them was that they got dirty, you'd have a point

I'm not positive what your doing...but I will add this. IF you decide to clean the "chrome" reflective surface on the inside of the headlight...be VERY careful and gentle. The mirror/reflective surface will/can rub right off...not good. I don't KNOW this to be the case specifically for a 993...cause I didn't mess with mine when I cleaned my headlights a few years back, but I have seen it happen on other headlight mirror surfaces...so I'm just bringing it up as a warning.

Thank you for the responses.

This is the fisheye glass lens I am referring to, not the outer lens cover.

http://webpages.charter.net/cemoto/ebay/open4.jpg

There is a slot at the bottom of the lens where it looked as if you might be able to pry the glass lens out, but I wasn't sure, and did not want to screw it up!

I did not have any long q-tips, so used a strip of slightly damp microfibre cloth and a bamboo skewer, then a dry one. Once the assembly is apart you can access the back of the lens from the top on both sides and also from the lower holes beneath the bulb holder. It looks much better!

Thanks again.

Get some distilled water & distilled vinegar, mix about 60/40, pour into light housing (electronics removed), swash around, let it sit for 2-3min, then pour out. Dump in a little 100 distilled water, swash around dump out, let air dry, or use a blower.

All clean.

Hello to all!
@ Stealth 993:
Could you please describe this procedure more in detail? Please?
It sounds very doable and much more... well taking light apart is something I would like to skip... Very time consuming.
Is it really enough, I mean - without any rubbing?

Taking the light apart is very easy. You have to "take it apart" to remove the bulbs.

If removing the light & bulbs is to much, this is not a DIY for you.
Not really sure that more detail is needed.
remove light
remove bulbs
mix distilled water & vinegar
pour in light housing
swish is around for a bit
pour out
pour in 100% distilled water
swish
dump out
repeat water flush

Air dry, or use compressed air, or blower part of vacuum
reinstall bulbs & light housing.

Also the headlight lens also comes off really easy, last time, I just removed the lens, cleaned it all up by hand, then snapped the lens back on.

This let me clean the chrome housing & clean the projector lens.
