Thanks for the informative write-up, Bill. Looks like I have some stuff I can buy now with the $50 gift certificate from Pelican that I won as a door prize at Palooza.

Now that's a good plan!

Mom always told me to be a good example for others, don't think this is what she had in mind though.

Towing eye 996.721.151.00 (10.31)

FDMotorsports (Mark & Darin) could have gotten it but I didn't want to delay my engine drop parts order. Besides, I've got a few other things to order from them later.
Pelican also carries both parts and would suspect Vertex does too.

I have a nice 4 tool set of triple square sockets in my toolbox but didn't want to break that up to keep 1 in the car. Besides, this tool looks like it's made for the toolkit.

The wrench I'll get locally (I can paint it silver if the mood strikes me).
I lost my towing eye a long time ago. But I discovered that I don't need one because for some reason, my car happens to have towing hook attachments built into its frame.

For the cost of the Porsche tool, you can get the $7 Snap-On tool and a cheap breaker bar to carry with you. I've used the Porsche tool and the Snap-On tool and will NOT use the Porsche tool ever again.

Great story! Yikes! I think I'll get the tools and supplies (FDM) needed to perform this job and as a practice run I I'll change the belts before a breakdown. Glad everything turned out fine.

Bill,
I know it is off topic but the car looks good in your avatar. I guess you guys spent a little time polishing.

Hey Dan. I'm actually only a cub scout but was traveling with two eagle scouts-BillW and David Bailey.

Sounds familiar.

With so much adjustment range, I have to wonder why Porsche just didn't use a longer A/C belt. I'll be looking into a longer A/C belt as a replacement.

Then there is that A/C adjuster bolt lock-nut (13 mm) that is hard to get to. I'll be turning an aluminum spacer to install on that ultra-long adjuster bolt to place the lock-nut to where it is accessible.

I've also added a quality 5 mm L-hex wrench and 3 new cooling fan pulley screws to my "kit". You can run without an alternator for about 2 hours, but not without a cooling fan.
