Default 993 TT Rear-view Mirror

is it a worthwhile upgrade to get the auto-dimming mirror?

Weird, I didn't know that was an option either.

As for whether or not it's worth it... do you drive much at night?

Somewhat. I guess there's nothing wrong with the mirror I have. Maybe I'm just looking for an easy project. I probably should save my $ for the suspension upgrade I really need to do.

I like it a lot and am putting one in my 964. My eyes are very sensitive to glare and bright lights at night and the self-dimming mirror option is a great simple upgrade

I installed this in Feb. Its a great upgrade and if your existing mirror is starting to loose its silver the this could be a logical upgrade. My night vision isnt the best and the 993 is really low so I find this upgrade helps ALOT when driving at night. It works very well unlike some dimming mirrors I have owned. At this price its a no brainer - easy to fit (uses standard ball already mounted on window) and best of all its a genuine factory 993 upgrade!

Some poor pics below - note I also have the factory 993 rain sensor fitted which you see in the picture:

Where does the mirror get its power from? Is there a connection under the headliner? Is this pretty DIY?

Yes, this was a factory option. $448.00.

You can see it listed here on this window sticker of a car currently at RPM:

Hi Ben. The mirror should come with a power lead which is tucked up inside the rubber window trim and exits behind the dash board where it passes via the firewall to teh fuse box. Simple really. Mine is a bit more exposed up by the mirror as I also had the control lead for the rain sensor to run under the rubber. If that had not bee the case then the mirror lead could have been run under the rubber where you an see the rain sesnor lead runs. and it would have been invisble! As it was there wasnt space under for both so the larger lead had to go above (there is more room above).

Cheers
M

It does come with the leads. So is it a major operation? I read elsewhere that people attach to a 'hot wire' located under the headliner but Macca is suggesting it goes around the window and down to the fuse box.
