WOW.... rather close to that bear huh? when were these taken? I want to get up there before all of the color is gone. nice pics

Photos taken Monday the 18th. Color should be good for another week even though high winds are hitting the area tonight. The bear is in the habitat they have at Grandfather Mtn. We did see a wild bear on the drive up though near Craggy Gardens. A big one too, about 250 lbs.

Fall + 993 = beautiful pics, thanks for posting. I always find fall bittersweet; the most beautiful scenery with all the fall colours but knowing ugliness (winter) is on it's way.

PS: No comments from Mr. Fister about "cool days" and sweaters when it goes below 70F at night.

Was up there for a week this summer. Did the LONG hike into the back of GF Mtn from the parkway. Beautiful area. Found the plane wreck from the early 80's up on the ridge. Amazingly untouched. Looked like it could have happened a couple days before we got there.

Retirement home outisde of Boone someday? Maybe!
