It's bloody amazing.... heat... like right now.

As to the Germans and winter, yeah, but for all I knew, Germans store their P-cars too
Salt is the main reason to store, but be aware that summer performance tires get hard as stone and become very slippery in cold weather.

I'm very aware of that. My main form of transport are motorcycles. The grip just goes away when the pavement is very cold. Not fun at all especially concrete.

I would'nt think of putting it through one of our Wisconsin winters. It's very hard on my DD, let alone, on my pride and joy!

As someone from Wisconsin. I agree, winters are brutal on cars there.

I wouldn't think of it either.

Please stay away My wife would faint if I suggested we take her 993 out in snow
If your car is a C4 or has LSD, it will be great in a little snow if you are running with winter tires (Blizzak, etc.) The "summer" high performance tires are brittle in the cold and don't grip well. Winter tires are much better even in the dry because the compound they use is more pliable when cold.

Hey, the 60's ended 50 years ago. There is absolutely no effect on your 993 from salt. The metal is treated and painted and is impervious to salt. It's not a '65 Beetle. I drive my car all seasons in all weather except for deep snow. The only thing that salt and sand might do is cause some road rash. WTF. It's a car. Drive it. If you need something pretty to look at go on the internet and google it!

Remember, some of the best experiences that you will ever have with your clothes on is driving your 911. Don't die and leave your relatives a pristine 993. That would be tragic.

The biggest thing you have to worry about in ABQ in the winter is the black ice from runoff. I remember it can get pretty bad.

Rich - love your perspective!

Just keep in mind those sticky Z-rated tires aren't so good in the cold.

Driving a Porsche in the snow is how I learned to counter steer in a skid! Doing doughnuts in the cul-de-sacs near the house on purpose when I was a kid was great driver training and the 914 seemed happy as a clam playing in the snow!

That is a quote to save!
Rich, for your 1-owner 265kmi+ 993, you have my utmost respect and awe!

The 993 is fantastic in the snow. I am in Chicago and drive all year round. You have to have winter tires, though, for all the reasons stated above - below about 50 those summer tires start to go away and by freezing they are hockey pucks (even if it is dry). I have driven in 4 inches of snow with no problems. In fact, I have driven right by pickup trucks and SUV's that are supposed to be good in the winter.

I agree on the heater as well. Instant on heat.
