Default Clicking when in gear on throttle

For the past few months I have been bothered by a rapid clicking when the car is in gear and on throttle. It is most noticeable in the higher gears, but probably because the engine noise is less. The sound comes from the right rear. There is no noise if I am moving, but not on the throttle. There is no noise if I rev the engine in neutral. Earlier in the year, I thought this was from my transmission, but second gear broke in June and transmission was rebuilt. The noise is still there.
Rennlisters...any ideas?

Just a guess, but it might be your right rear inner fender knocking, little loose. There is a thread on rennlist somewhere about this.

Sounds a lot like pinging. Check that distributor belt and your coils...

Thanks guys. There are no inner fenders or undertray on the car, so that's not it. I'll check distributor...but isn't that in operation regardless of whether I am on throttle?
There is zero noise when I am rolling and in gear, but not on the gas. Touch the throttle, the clicking starts. Off the throttle, the clicking stops. Speed makes no difference...only the throttle. The frequency of the clicking is also unaffected by speed or the amount of throttle.
Keep the ideas coming...

Since the frequency of the clicks is not speed related and is throttle related it pretty much has to be engine related. Do you know any place around you that has a rolling road (dyno)? If so you should be able to pinpoint the problem fairly rapidly.

I was going to say CV joint, but you say the clicking is not speed dependent.

I was lent a set of wheels while I was refurbishing mine few years back, and I had a huge clicking in the passenger rear side when I had a passenger in the back, and the throttle floored.
I thought it was the CV joint and was annoyed.
when I had my wheels back on, no more clicking ever.
Later, discovered where it rubbed and deducted it was the rear tire hitting the rear passenger fender, the borrowed wheels had pirelli asymetrico with different more edged profil than the michelins I had.
just my experience

Maybe Bertmerv could swap position of the rear wheels (for a very short test ride) and see if the sound/noise changes side? Just a thought.
