993 Under Bridal Veil Falls
Just a nice shot on the way up to Highlands, NC via 64. Not much water falling at this time of year but still a treat to be behind and under the falls.

wow!
that road would be permanently closed here in New York
OMG that is cool as hell. They MUST close that stretch during hi flow's, that would throw a car right off the road.
cool, very cool. That probably belongs on an East coast bucket list, don't you think?

This falls is in my home town, and there is now a bypass so that you do not have to go under the falls. When I first moved to Highlands, there was no road around it, and you had to drive under the falls. I can remember in the winter when the falls would freeze and close the road. Unfortunately, most of the grocery store vendors used that road, so sometimes there was a couple of day delay on bread.

It is endless! Closer to your area is Grandfather mountain and the town of Blowing Rock. Little Switzerland (the Inn has a wonderful restaurant on the property with views). Mt Mitchell is the tallest mountain and an easy drive to the top from the parkway (all paved). Heading towards and past Asheville I would definitely experience the Pisgah Inn restaurant with incredible views as you dine. Turnouts include the highest point of the parkway near Maggie Valley, and Waterrock **** is a pretty overlook (with nice restrooms :-) The drive and scenes are endless if the weather cooperates. Have fun! PM me if you want more info. We are constantly on the parkway. The traffic is ultra light before the October 'fall season'.

The western part of North Carolina about an hour west of Asheville. This section of 64 runs out of Franklin, NC and heads up to Highlands It is one of the tightest (narrow) scenic roads you will ever experience. Dry Falls is also located on this road where you can walk behind another waterfall which has a HUGE volume of water, nothing like the pictured falls with our car. Highlands itself is very 'upper end' with dozens of shops and restaurants. It sits at an elevation around 4100'. Just a great tourist spot!
