See you Saturday!!!
Same here, a 1966 912 was my first car, purchased in 1976! I was young and looking at 356's and when I saw a 912 that was in my price range, I had to have it!
Spent the next year repairing a rusted trunk pan and rebuilding the engine with a 1750 big bore kit and hot rod cam. Kept it for 15 years. It had the gasoline powered heater, somewhat scary but good to have if you lived where it got cold.
Enjoy the simplicity and basic design, that is a car you can do all of the restoration work by yourself.

Thanks all for the compliments and if I get frustrated somewhere along the way, I know I can rely on you guys to reinspire me

Classic long-hood beauty. What's there not to like? Keep us (as in us, here, on the 993 board!) posted with pics! That's a lovely car hiding under that patina

[QUOTE=bramblegrower;7920825]Got any pics???
i haven't taken any pics for a while, but i will update my restoration thread in the 356 forum when i do.
i did discover the last three digits of the VIN number written by factory workers on the inner doors (behind the door panels) in chaulk.....i thought that was pretty cool. we're going to clear over them so they will always be there. also, the floors and longitudinals are original in my car and still have the factory orange paint....my car was painted silver some time in the 80s.

Yep, it's done!
Howdy all. First my apologies for not keeping you guys posted on my progress. I am reviving this thread to update you on the car. This project ended up taking exactly two years and every stage was a lot of fun.
I did the tear down and assembly, Leland's Automotive in Scotts Valley did the body and paint, John Moch at Moch-1 did the interior and Scott's Independent of Anaheim did the engine, trans. and suspension work. It is now finished and a great driving 912.
Engine is now 2002cc as designed by Wilhoit Automotive, running a Scat crank, JE pistons, Nickies cylinders, Carrillo rods, ported and polished heads, 9.4:1 compression ratio, a fairly mild Web Cam camshaft, Solex 40P11 carbs. bored to 44mm and a Dansk Supersport muffler that produces 133hp and 136 ft-lb. torque. Trans is a five speed with close ratio first thru fourth and a tall 5th gear for highway cruising and a GT limited slip differential. Suspension has Elephant Racing poly-bronze bushings, front and rear sway bars and Von Street Shocks combined with stock torsion bars and 911SC front brakes.
Color is Porsche #5711 called "Orange" that was a 1957 - 59 special order color. Bumper decos are 356 Carrerra GT style fabricated by Wilhoit. Interior is full leather with reproduction sport seats by GTS Seats.
The wife and I attended the 912 Registry "Rendevous" this past weekend. What a great group of enthusiastic folks!! Saturday was the car show with peoples' choice judging. It seems they liked the car.
