Default German Auto Dismantler-Georgia..Happy ending

just wanted to share the happy ending with you all. A couple of months ago(man how time flies), I got a Blk/Alu X option shifter and ebrake handle form these guys. Condition was stated as very good-no rips, tears, scratches, etc, etc,etc...The price for the pair was awesome, $275 + shipping

When the package arrived, the condition was anything but as described. The shifter had a couple of tears in the boot, and the shift **** looked like EVERY previous owner had rings on every finger. The ebrake handle was a whole other story-it was severely bent, and the leather at the button end was rough.

I called my salesman-Mike, and he assured me the ebrake handle wasn't bent when shipped, etc. Anyway, we negotiated a 50% credit, so I had about $137 coming back. I fiddled, polished, disassembled and bent...and in the end, I made the less than perfect pieces work. They are certainly not in the overall condition that I would like, but hell...neither am I. They look just beautiful inside, and cost a fraction of what "new" would.

Anyway, regarding the credit...I needed a few things, got the tow hook that was missing from my tool kit, also that little trim cap that was broke on the driver's side door. The last piece from the credit came today, a brand new oem spoiler wall.

To say that I am happy with their service, honesty, and integrity...is an understatement. The conclusion might have been a while in the making-just busy on both ends pretty much.

But in the long run, they made it right, and then some as far as I am concerned.

So, you need a junk yard part? Need some oem goodie, give Mike a call at German Auto Dismantler., he is a very decent guy!

I dunno man, if they were really that honest they would've sent you the pieces as described. To me it sounds more like you did a good job negotiating with a shady seller. GAD don't have a very good reputation on this board. My personal favorite dismantlers are Parts Haven and DC Automotive.

Anyway, all is well that ends well. As long as you're happy that's all that matters

I did call every dismantler I could find looking for those parts, as well as a split grill. GAD was the only one who had the shifter/ebrake pieces, I got the split grill from OK Foreign.

I never thought to search GAD on here. If they did right by me, that must mean that they put the boots to somedody else, huh?

Thanks!!!...nothing has ripped me up worse in my life then the inability to make my customers "Happy & Whole" ..I appreciate your kind words and want you to know that I am working now for one of the most honest and square businessmen that it has been my pleasure to meet. After 50 years of working with the public in this field, on and off the track, I rarely read Forums (this is my first posting here) anymore because sometimes it kept me awake at night. I have the blessing of working for dC Automotive now and I can promise you that it is very hard to find anyone in this business as straight up, honorable & honest as my current boss. Going to work is a joy and I hope I can bring his vision of "Customer Service to every one of my sales in the future..Thanks again for "Reading between the Lines"..Mike

Mike, I bought rear seatbacks from dC Automotive a while ago, they were described as very good condition, they were in fact like new.
Good luck with everything. The planet needs more people like you with scruples.

I'd consider yourself lucky. This is the first positive post Ive seen on this outfit. Go to the 911 board and search "German Auto Dismantlers" and see if you can find a thread that doesn't accuse them of some pretty bad stuff. I've personally never dealt with them, and based on what I've read, I never will.

My thoughts also. It seems these parts came not as described at all so giving you credit afterwards, while helpful, doesn't seems to address the original misrepresentation. I suspect they hoped you might not complain. Anyway, glad you're happy in the end.

Sorry to rain on this parade and pop the balloons, but the allegations against these guys have been pretty severe. Many by companies and reputable individuals on the Porsche boards.

This $hit has seemingly gone on for years, so pick your adage: You don't teach an old dog new tricks, where there's smoke there's fire, etc.

I orginally replied to this thread via the Iphone app....I see now it started last summer. Oh well, the warning still is valid: Know who you're dealing with before you pull out the cash or credit card.

Well, GAD is now out of the used Pcar parts business. I called a couple of weeks ago, looking for another Split grill. Mike was the guy I dealt with there. He spent ALOT of time with me, resolving the problem.

In his defense, he did state he didn't see the parts-pull them/box them etc...just going by part description in the file I assume.

Mike, thanks for posting, and please save me the next split grill you see at DC.

I've got a case going against these guys right now with my credit card. To say they're shady is an understatement. They sent me junk and then promised to replace it instead of refunding my money. Now he’s out of business. Stay away from the new parts business as the same owner is involved. He doesn't care about my issue and is content to say it's not his problem as he's no longer in the used parts business.
