road rash
Are other 993 owner's having any road rash problems? I've had mine for 2 months and when I picked it up, there were no stone chips. I'm extremely **** about where/how I drive, but I have gotten so many chips on the front end that I’m almost afraid to take it on weekend trips. Is the paint soft (or maybe too hard) on the 993’s? How do you guys deal with this? I had none of these issues with any of my other vehicles including a vintage Mercedes that was used heavily for weekend trips.

Fact of life on lowered cars etc.
No way around it except clear bra etc.
My front end was repainted this past summer. Already has 20-30 chips on the TT bumper. My car is very, very low in the front-everything hit's it

Unfortunate fact of life with these and any other low, modern(ish) sports car. There's lots more exposed paint at the front since "soft" bumpers replaced chrome, the paint is now water based, and cars are lower to the ground. It all adds up to road rash/stone chips.

I had a front end respray done when the chips became intolerable. I was lucky it was covered by insurance. I will just keep driving mine, get the chips, and respray again at some point.

I've thought about respraying the front hood of my black metallic '97 Turbo due to rock chips. I've always feared that would detract from it's resale value. Would it?

I think two things have really helped me over the years regarding stone chips:
1) I don't tailgate people
2) Move back, speed up and/or change lanes when I see a gravel truck (just about any truck)

May or may not. Depends on the next buyer and time-frame. Regardless, it needs to be done well, and documanted with before and after pictures to show painting was not done for accident repair.

^ I agree. My car is not of sufficient mileage to be considered a collector car, even with only 52K miles. I will just drive it and let the chips fall where they may. Respray when needed, but document that it was for cosmetic purposes anyway.

The noses of our cars are so low to the ground that they are veritable rock-magnets.
The only way around it is to have a clear or (in my case) a custom Colgan (two piece) bra.
Any rock-chips that do make their way onto the car -- I've found that you must have some 'discipline' and attend to them immediately and NOT procrastinate. In that way you don't end up with 'so many' that the thought of repair leans towards a whole re-spray.

Even with the entire front end of my car wrapped in "Clear Bra" material I still see stone/rock hits that have struck the edges and have struck so hard that it has distorted the clear bra material. If you're going to enjoy driving the car, it's just part of the game, short of hiring an airport runway debris sweeper to preceed you where ever you went, it's just drive, enjoy, repaint and re-wrap when you want to spend the money for the repairs.
