Hi guys, meant to post this earlier this year as a head's up.

Had my Rennnline carbon fibre bypass tube 'installed' earlier this summer. Was in for some other service items, so had my indie take care of it. Bottom line - even with a new 964 shroud, it just doesn't fit well. He did his best, but it was still partially unseated at the shroud. Don't get me wrong, I was glad he stopped trying. The part just doesn't line up well on a 993.

Fast forward to yesterday when I decided to finally deal with it - a little wiggling, and she's all apart.

My buddy Jim is as accomplished a mechanic as grow in the tree's shade - and it took us nearly 2 hours of agrravation to fix it. Solution was to insert the tube beyond the first lip (ie. too far into the shroud) to have a hope of lining everthing back up. Lot's of twisting, pushing, sweating and swearing. It's all buttoned up and not going anywhere, but pity the fool (me?) that has to deal with this again if it ever has to be removed.

Aftermarket is fun, but what a StrekStrekStrekStreking pain in the *** sometimes.

I haven't had any experience with the RS heater bypass, but all the other Rennline products I have bought (and there are many) have all been of excellent fit and have great instructions.....

Yup, really annoyed (and surprised as well - I know they make quality parts, that's the only reason I bought it instead of an OEM plastic one).

After spending probably and hour's wasted time with my mechanic and a few hours on my own, I expected more. As you can appreciate, there's only so many ways to adjust fitment: it sits in a doughnut, and mates to a soft 964 shroud snorkel. It's off by more than you'd expect. Even now, the shroud is bent/distorted to make fit.

I would have reached out to Rennline directly (and still may) - would be curious to know if I got a bum piece or if this is just how it is. Anyone else care to share their fitment experience?

I can't find this on their website. Is this a special order part or a one-off or what?

Also, does this part or the OEM one work with the 993 shroud?

I'll dig around for the link, but it was on their site in Dec when I bought it.

It's a carbon fibre 964/993 heater bypass pipe. And I regret it was well north of $200...

I bought a CF piece from Fabspeed. Had same problem. After I complained, they tried to install one themselves and found it wouldn't work. They gave me a full refund. (Thanks Alex!) Said they were designing an extra piece to make fitment work. Don't know what the status of that is. I ordered an OEM piece from FD and had a hell of a time installing it too. But, after several hours of cussing and sweating, it finally went in. Secret is to fit it into shroud first - counterintuitive. You must have the 964 shroud - which is what came on '95 993s. Not sure when they switched to 993 shroud. CF may look cooler, but the OEM plastic works!

I had the same issue with one from fabspeed. The best I could tell was the seem on the carbon fiber was off, therefore not letting it slide in easy.

I think you should give Rennline a chance to make it right.

Agree. Rather than pissing away so much time with the installation, or now living with an expensive product that has a poor fit, take a few pics and send an email to them. I would be shocked if they tell you, "tough luck"....
