Nice pics and story Steve. Last Friday I headed down to Williamsburg leaving out around 11 am. I ran into the same traffic as you. Regardless of time of day it seems that from Springfield to Spotsy is always crawling.....same on the return leg Sunday.

And I bet you were driving an Automatic, too. Much easier in traffic

Asheville is a beautiful area. I am glad you got to visit it. I was there not too long ago and the Biltimore is a great place to visit. I read that after the owner died they had to sell of some of the land piece buy piece just to maintain it. It is a self sustaining (still family run) enterprise now with all of the tourism.

Hey Steve, just saw you updated this thread with photos. Glad you got to make it to the Biltmore! Give me a holler if you are ever down this way again.

Get xm for the 993 and avoid the stupid roads.
It will just be a drive other wise-when it could be a fun drive all the way!

If I was traveling with my family, probably the BMW. On a solo roadtrip, 993 without a dought and I wouldnt care about pot holes, gravel, ect. Its a car, not a Van Gogh painting.

Steve:

Here's a trip report on the Ohio highpoint for you, off the MOA Forum:

IIRC, this one is part of your future plans.

That's pretty funny. Thanks for the laugh today.

I've actually already summited that peak 3 years ago. It was a tough slog to the top but my buddy and I made it. Only took about 7 hours (drive).

Pretty scary hike, lots of dangerous drop offs along the way. Here's the glory shot.

My friend and I together there at the very top of the peak

Later that day we weathered tough weather and another ballbuster of a climb to get to Indiana's high point

Along the way...

Standing on top of Indiana. What a view! It's in the middle of a corn field

Cresting the top with the survey marker

The most memorable part of the trip, the log book. This is what we found. Pretty touching, actually...

Life is good when you come upon cool things like this, isn't it?

My friend very near the high point, leaving it...this puts into perspective the tough battle against mother nature we endured getting to the top and back.

They really do it up for Halloween in these parts...

In the middle of a corn field back in Ohio. The best steak sandwich I ever had.

Cool stuff to see on the way home... One of the best museums I've ever been to (Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). It was a spur of a moment stop off on the way back to DC.

Part of the reason I do these trips are the incidental cool things along the way to a state's highest point

Great shots. I thought you'd enjoy that report. Josh does some interesting rides.

It was a tough slog...
You're going to have your work cut out for you, when you start working the western states...
