Depends how often you do an oil change which runs me under CDN $100 using OEM oil filters (there are two on the car) and just under twelve liters of synthetic oil. The transmission takes four liters of gear oil which runs me CDN $60.

My annual costs will be about $200 as I don't have the opportunity to drive it all that much. I'm talking ''maintenance costs''...filters, lubes, brake fluid, etc. not tires, brake pads, etc.

Repair costs are another thing.

My '95 was just a few dollars under $80,000. The options can really add up.

I thought the same. I did all four corners (rotors, pads, and spyders) for $750.

Ok we all know about the valve guides and SAI repairs can be pretty costly any other repairs can break the bank?

LOL, from my experience with both a B5 S4 & my 993's the 993 is WAY cheaper to maintain! It seamed like something was always failing on the Audi. If it did the part would be like $100, but 10 hours to replace it.

I did all my own wrenching as well, the 993 is WAY, WAY more simplistic, & far easier to work on. The only thing that was easier on the Audi was oil changes.

The SAI is not as prevalent as blown Audi turbo's, or blown coil packs. But when you do do the heads, it will cost quite a bit.

Working on the Audi

I agree the 1.8t is easier, but it still is a PITA. Control arms are all the same, & fail quite often. Don't get me started on changing out the front shocks!

FWIW, I used to be the General Manager, of StartupRacing, & we specialized in Audi, VW & Porsche.

I'm sure my friends with Ferraris envy us with our 993's whether you wrench on them yourself or take it to your preferred independent shop, the cost to maintain our cars pales compared to theirs.

I am with stealth. At this point, my 993 has cost me less in maintenance/repairs than my 2001 A4 2.8. I've put $3.7k into repairs in the past 2yrs into the A4. Great car, but can get very pricey when it needs repairs. My 993 is only at 48k mi, so considerably less mileage.
