Bored with my 993!

I have been bored w/my 993 lately and I think I need a project. I recently added stainless "Carrera" door sills, picked up a 3 spoke wheel, had a new shifter boot made with a newer shift ****, added some Lloyd floor mats, new stone guards and installed new aluminum bezel rings for the gauges. I also ordered HID lights for my running and fog lights and changed my tranny fluid the other night. These were "throw in mods" and I am still bored!
I am pondering dropping the engine and adding a light weight fly wheel and clutch, changing plugs and wires, changing the valve cover gaskets (not that it needs it), etc.. I think my enjoyment comes more from working on my p-car then driving it. Am I weird?

Hi Larpy!
go further in working on your car, you'll love her more...
Need ideas? here is a page with some...

A 993 is probably the last Porsche on which we can do that by our selves, and the feeling when you turn the key for the first time after the job is just GREAT!
Then a 100 cells cat for the sound, and you'll be looking for a trip with a maximum of tunnels. After the last tunnel slow down in front of a large shop , and have a look at your reflection in the windows...how are your wheels looking?
Enjoy a nice coffee on a Starbuck terrace and enjoy the view of your "baby" in the parking...if she enjoyed the ride, she will probably flash the lights for an invitation to go again!

I took a ratching strap looped it between the middle bar and the bottom bar, (which was rated at 400lbs, still could not create the force with out poping the ratchet) locked it between the 2 bars, then took half of a broomstick, stuck it in between the 2 straps and twisted. It created enough force to pull it in place. I was amazed at how much easier that was. (not sure how safe but, it worked for me!)

Well my only help was my girlfriend, while very patient, her and I could barley budge the dang thing (I am certainly no body builder). Thank god despiration leads to great ideas!

Sorry I didn't have time to field your query other than on the phone.

Sounds like most of them arrive slightly out of shape - that makes me feel much better. The last hole for me was always the killer, no matter which was saved for last.
Found the upper/lower bar connection point behind the drivers seat to be the easiest to combat - although both seats were out, I should mention.
Ended up having a friend leverage the damned thing against the (very well protected) door jam with a pry bar while I slid a 3/8 extension into the hole. Fed the bolt in backwards while the extension held the position of the bar. Here is a guy who is about 6'3" and fit as a brick making noises I've never heard him make before to move the friggen thing a half an inch.
Well built, if nothing else. Hope the friggen bolts hold...

I did take one...It was called a P-Car pill. Most expensive damn pill I ever took. Turns out that pills causes an uncontrollable urge to spend money and time in the garage. Part of my problem. I do have to admit that I love driVng my car in the fall. There is something about the cool air and the mountains makes me want to put on some miles.

I was feeling that last year. almost thought of selling it. started doing a few DE and PCA driver training days and that cured it. Even more fun than modding it is taking it a track or autocross or similar event. you can work on the car and your own skills.

Mark - You have been more than kind answering all my questions, I appreciate your willingness to do so. Luckily my hard headedness actually worked this time. i will be giving you a shout on that tunnel side mount once I get all my various parts that I ordered.

I think they arrive out of shape and none of these cars are exactly alike. I had probably an inch down and an inch forward to move that particular one you are talking about. My next step was going to be strap it to a telephone pole (i live in the city) and reverse until it got into place. that surely would have ended in a snapped strap and broken windshield and still the roll bar wouldnt have been installed! Funny, i had the same thought about the bolts!
Great idea!

Aye.
What else are you installing? If Mark is giving you a hand, I wouldn't mind doing so as well since I just finished up the bar, seats and harnesses on my car.
Same old rule. Six days the first time. Six minutes the second time.
Shoot me a PM if you could use an extra set of bloody knuckles - glad to help.

I'm thinking of going down a similar road, of lightly modifying my car, but nervous about doing it myself. I've got little mechanical experience and buyers over here really seem to prefer a raft of invoices from recognised Porsche specialists to relate to any changes made.
Maybe if I specify my own modifications, then have them applied to my car, I will get some of that my car feeling, even if the satisfaction levels won't be quite as high as performing the mods myself.
I have RSRs, 100 Cats, RS engine mounts, RS short shift, RS ARBs and RS top mounts on my list initially, along with a Wayne Schofield remap. When my clutch goes; RS clutch, fly wheel and tranny mount. When the discs need doing; RS brakes front and rear. Going to keep the body stock.
Anyone on here gone down a similar route in terms of these modifications on a 993 C2 VR NB? I know that Jackal from 911uk.com has done the same and his car is pretty much what I want to achieve, but he's done the work himself, which I'm very jealous of!
(Mark, I'm sorry to learn about Rudy passing away.)
