Default Aftermarket keyless remote guts + Porsche hand remote housing

Hi all,

First off, hello! I just picked up my first Porsche (1995 C2) two weeks ago and absolutely love it. I really like what you guys are doing on these boards; Rennlist (and especially the 993 group) has to be one of the better car enthusiast communities out there on the net.

Has anyone taken the guts out of an aftermarket remote and transplanted it into the Porsche hand remote housing (993-618-959-12)? I rather like the way this housing looks, and it would be a crying shame to have to unlock my doors with something not made by Porsche. Alternatively, does anyone have the internal dimensions of the remote housing, including the screw and button locations? I guess I could just go and buy the housing since I'll need it at some point...

Default This is a great forum . . .

I'd say the circuit board is 1 9/16 " by 1 1/4". Battery makes it 1 15/16' long.

Interesting idea but what are the chances of the buttons lining up? I would be interested in the mod if it all works out.

Thanks, Kein_Ersatz! Just what I needed.

Matt, these are my thoughts as well. Here's to hoping. Now to hunt down some remotes -- I'll keep this thread updated if I find anything.

Can you buy an aftermarket remote that integrates with the Porsche locking system? Or would you be replacing that also?

In my case, I lack option m530 (factory remote locking) on my 1995, so I'd be integrating an aftermarket receiver. Did Porsche or some other OEM design and manufacture the factory remote guts?

Hi Urkurt,
I am in the same questionning as you were regarding putting an aftermaket alarm/keyless entry on my 964, but using an original Porsche housing, did you find a solution to your problem? (I have already the porsche housing)

In the end, I picked up the T-LOCK kit. Easy enough install besides my nightmare of stripping the seat rail bolt heads. Although it lacks the crest, the remote on these looked and felt quite nice, so I stuck with it.

If your car has central lock as I believe all but the race oriented 993 have adding keyless remote is extremely simple. Just three wires involved. On either side of the car in the trunk locate the bundle of wires that go to one of the doors, left or right side. Identify the two wires that go to the key switch in the door lock or as an alternative tap into the two wires that go to the center console locking switch. Tap in with the two trigger wires from the aftermarket remote. Then run the constant on (+) hot wire to the battery or some other constant hot connection in the car. Any remote even a cheap one on ebay should work just fine.

Thank you both for your answers, although using the t lock or another aftermarket kit seems obviously to be the easiest choice, I would like to use the original Porsche remote housing (if only because i paid an eye watering 85 $ for it at the local porsche dealer!) what I discovered is that these housing were part of an immobiliser system made by Bosch and sold to many constructors, including GM, ford and even ferrari... The fobs are the same, and exchangeable from one brand to the other (some with brand logo, some without). The immobiliser itself is nearly the same (same box, same electronics) the only difference is the way you program new remotes (on porsche version, you have to turn the key on and off after certain amounts of time to enter programing mode, on ford version, you have to turn it 10 times on and off, some need to enter code, some don't) So my intention is to buy a ford/GM secondhand box with remotes, graft the box on my existing alarm system, and take the guts of the ford remote to put it in the porsche housing, I will keep you posted to see if it works....

Hi UrKurt,

Actually I did this by using the aftermarket (a class 3 Alarm for insurance reasons) remote internals and using a dremel to make it fit. Also I soldered a light on the board, since the aftermarket did not have one, but the Porsche housing did.

Best regards,

Marco

Dear Marco,

This sounds an excellent method, wich brand of aftermarket immobiliser did you use?

My alarm/immobiliser brand is a MED 2200 / 3200 and equipped with the Med TX4000 remote (This brand is sort of a modular system).

And as mentioned before, I had to use a dremel to make it fit.

Good luck & best regards,

Marco

Dear Marco,

I am trying another route for now: grafting a bosch immobiliser from a Ford (I had already bought one from ebay) in the porsche as it is the same system that was installed originally in 993 (same unit and same fob: I will just transfer the ford guts in the porsche housing).

However, I find that your installation is very clever (and I am not afraid of some dremmeling) and I would definitely do the same if the option A doesn't work in the end. When I did some research, I found many aftermarket systems with big remotes and/or multiple buttons, but the Med remotes have the small size and single button design very needed to use in the Porsche housing, I didn't knew them, thank you!
You mentioned that you have added a led to the remote, which I would love to do also, do you have any info you can provide me on how to do it? (which led and where to solder it?)

many thanks for your help,

Hi RR,

I am not at home right now, I'll get back to you with the details on that.

Best regards,

Marco
