So I drove this 964R today. And I'm very frustrated.
Sadly, the car is for sale. I think the owner is experiencing a temporary mental short-circuit and thinks its time for the next project. The gentleman that built this beast is otherwise highly intelligent, extraordinarily nice, and a class act.
This thing is one of the tightest, finest, fastest cars I've driven (and I've driven alot, from F40's to GT3s, open wheel cars, touring cars, karts, bikes, etc, etc. Its so well engineered and so well put together. Its no mish-mosh of parts. Everything works together as if designed by the factory.
For example, the motor is near stock, so no silliness associated with one-off trick hand built stuff. As attractive as that sounds, I've never had, or heard of one that ran consistently without tuning, support, etc.
In order to find speed, the car has been lightened in the most trick and elegant ways. A carbon hood, that fits like an OEM piece. Perfect shutlines and a smooth finish. Super lightweight interior, but using the finest components and materials. The list goes on, and its a very long list. I think it weighs 2700lb or so.
The car is so pretty in person. Pics certainly don't do it justice.
My hesitation with this car is that its finished to perfection. I could only drive it, wash it, and change the oil. Thats perfect for most of you, but it sounds like torture to me. What would I do in my spare time? Paint the house? Hang out with my family? Must have a project. Who knows, I may change my mind tomorrow.
I had to slouch back to my mousy little Porsche and lumber home after driving that broad shouldered monster. I've been giving my 993 the stink-eye ever since. The poor thing could never be that cool, will never be that fast, and never turn or stop the way that 964 does. I'll have my final decision tomorrow. But if I don't get it, someone should grab it quick.

We'll as always it comes down to the price.
I've seen that car in a magazine article... can't remember which one though. Perhaps it was Excellence? Anyway, if you can't afford both I would just say go for it! You can always replace your 993 but, assuming the price is good, you will never be able to build a car like this for what you could buy it for -especially counting the hundreds of hours the guy spent researching, planning and coordinating the build.
Look at it another way, you now have a wonderful basis to continue development. For example, you could install some trick 9meister billet heads, etc... etc...

I read the article on this car when it was first published in Excellence, And have the pages ripped out of that magazine hanging on a wall.
That car is just a work of art, I cant believe it is for sale and so soon.
if its not a secret...........How much?

or just buy a 993 twin turbo engine for your current car $19-23,000 , sell your current engine $5-8000 . So for roughly 14-15000 you could have that 993 twin turbo engine and just crank up the boost. 500hp is easy with that motor.
