Default OT: North Georgia Mountain Speeding Sting

This might be of interest to you North Georgia Mountain runners... http://www.thedahloneganugget.com/ar...20speeders.txt ...Seems that last Saturday, they put 50 patrol cars on the road between Dahlonega and Blairsviille (About a 30 mile stretch), as well as a chopper overhead, and nabbed 94 "violaters." That's an average of a whopping 1.8 citations/arrests per patrol car on the road. H-m-m-m-m-m-m-m.....Where are Barney Fife and Gomer Pyle when we need them?

********. If it were about safety, it would be ok. That's nothing but a money grab. At least they got one DUI arrest.

That's just a normal day on many highways in Virginia. There are counties in VA whose main source or revenue is from speeding tickets.

I can understand the DUI, drugs and related issues. The problem is the hot spots that are being abused by too many idiots that cause crashes or make too much noise, especially Harleys that are of no good use for anything anyways. The locals get irritated and ask for reinforcement.
I like the comment in the link that the police doesn't mind if the motorist has some fun, as long as it's within the law. There are rarely any streets where the speed limit is high enough and you have a hard time getting up there because of the tight turns and serpentine curvy roads.
I used to first do reconnaissance laps, run the same area twice and then hit it. The convertible helps to scan the skies too, paired with the police scanner. If you have 50 cop cars and a helicopter, you'll know way ahead of time that they're there.
The operation takes way too much money and effort on the police side so once they were there, they won't come back for a while.
I always hated the speed limit in the US, for as long as I lived there. I had a chance to move to Germany and took it 2 years ago. I shipped the 993 with me. The whole driving experience changed. They have much stricter laws but when the road is clear ahead of you and you see the end of the speed restriction sign, its downshift and redline time. Even at almost $ 9/gallon, I'm not the type of guy that want's to safe some gas.
I put it to good use, as long as it's there.
Drive safely everybody.

In light of this development, we'll have to adopt countermeasures for this year's run, like keeping the route under wraps until we all meet up...Adrienne in Tx adopted this approach on one of her runs several years ago. I think the FerrariChatters do this as well.

Nah...Let's just put Sergio out in front and when they zero in on him, the rest of us can just scatter like a covey of quail!

Well...thanks a lot Terry. Isn't this the way that happens every year anyways? Everybody is always so eager to let me go out in front ,waving me off with a big smile as I go by. All this time I'm thinking...what a great group of guys...now I know the real reason!

I like Ed's idea better. Let just invite some Ferrari guy to our next run and send him up front.

He might spin out, though, and block the road. When I ran with those boys two years ago, a guy in a 360 did just that.
