Okay, just some venting here. I tried to find the ever popular Sumitomo HTRIIIs or Hankook Ventus 12s or Kumhos locally. It seems nobody carries any of these. Everything else is $1200 and up a set (18s). I may go to TR now but then I'm looking at $100 brokerage, duty plus $200 for mounting and balancing because I didn't buy them at the local tire shop. I now remember why I just shelled out for the PS2s last time. Any other tire recommendations?

TR is still the best price option. Mounting on a good machine should only be $100

I know this might be a total pain in the *** but have a set shipped to northern Montana and take a drive down and have em mounted up then drive back. Granted you'll kill a day doing so but it seems like you're driving yourself crazy trying to get them in Calgary anyway.

I recently had the Hankook V12s installed on my '07 997 C4S by "Tire Van." I don't know if they're available in your area (www.tirevan.com), but they mounted, balanced and installed the tires right in my driveway for a about $1100.

My thoughts exactly, and probably not a big deal to find a good shop in MT.

EDIT: I searched around a bit and didn't find any shops in N. MT (maybe a PM to Damon would help,) but Spokane WA is ~600 miles from Edmonton and there are two TireRack shops there... So, probably not worth all that driving, after all. Unless you're up for a nice roadtrip.

Hankook's Canadian site shows that Tirecraft all over Alberta is a dealer - they can't get them in for you?

I called both the Sumi dealer and Tirecraft for the Hankook's today who both said no. I guess Canada is a small market so not all tires are available.

We generally pay a lot more for tyres here in Australia than in the US but it it only costs $15 a tyre to have them fitted and balanced.

Labour here is expensive. Even if you buy the tires at the shop they want $100 to mount and balance. Most tire retailers are pulling out of the same couple of warehouses it seems. Its like shopping around at various car dealers only to find out they are all owned by the same company. I've got an inquiry out to Damon at TR and found a company in Vancouver that has some good prices on Hankook Ventus 12s. One of my other concerns is around having to replace one tire in the event of a puncture. It would be nice to know I could get a replacement tire locally but that doesn't seem like its going to be an option.

Hey Matt, I have been buying my tires from Discount Tires Direct, they charge flat brokerage ($180) for a set of 4 tires delivered, and of course the fitting. It is still a substantial saving over buying from anyone local. Their pricing per tire is sometimes higher however when you factor in the brokerage, delivery, customs and all the other crap they are cheaper than TR. www.discounttiredirect.com

EG. My Dunlops (235 and 265 18's) I was quoted locally just over $1300, I bought them for $1006, plus 100 for fitting was still $200 cheaper....

+1 on Discount Tires.

There is a location 20 minutes from my border (45 min drive in total). When I need to buy tires, I search for the best price on the net, then call them. They price-match, order them and call me when they are ready for pickup. I drive down, have them install them and drive back home. It's a 3hr ordeal but I save nearly 50% of what I would pay locally. No fussing with shipping etc.
