Thanks for the pic David! I posted on the other link as well that I heard this was only an issue for 95 model.

Stable Energies 'flat mount' FEM2...

going to swap out FEM2 and swap in 'front mount' FEM3 after Andreas told me he had no issues with seat/extinguisher movement using FEM3. FEM3 looks to mount the extinguisher just a BIT closer to the front of the seat.

I also followed Andreas' lead and cut off the neck of the extinguisher bracket (not the Stable Energies bracket, but the smaller one that holds the extinguisher). The smaller extinguisher bracket has a U that holds the top of the extinguisher and prevents rotating it.

1) Girlfriend is short, mounted in front of passenger seat won't work
2) cutting off the U neck of the extinguisher brackets allows rotation of the extinguisher handle down toward the floor more as in Andreas picture
3) moving to driver's seat when I get FEM3

I'll be selling the FEM2 shown in this picture (well, you can't see it because the extinguisher's on top of it) for such a deal after I get FEM3 and install on driver's seat.

(sigh)
now the girlfriend has her purse space back and won't hit her heels or calves on the extinguisher. Sold FEM2 and got the FEM3 installed on driver's side. It's low, moves just fine with the seat, squeeze handles rotated downward, not a problem being on the driver's side at all.

Crappy cellphone pic but you get the idea...

I've been very happy with by Brey Krause mount (R-2016 for power seats). Like all BK parts, rock solid, no rattles and top quality.

Mine will be for sale later this fall (2 summer's "use", I'm switching to a roll bar mount) if anyone's interested.

Best,

Matt

In 35 years of car ownership, I have never had a fire in any of my vehicles.

Why, do Porsches tend to self-ignite?

They don't tend to catch fire - where did you hear that?

But as with all cars, it can happen.

I am kind of attached to my 993, and if it happened, I'd like a shot at saving it. Would feel like a real dummy watching it burn because I was unprepared. Now, if my Hyundai caught fire, different story...

I saw a news report of a motorcycle forum member's 911 going up in flames in Vancouver.

Default Extinguisher mount

Thanx to David Bishop ...affixed my Stable Energies mount/bracket to the passenger seat the other day.
The four holes (for four appropriate bolts) were cut *perfectly* so as to match the equivalent holes near the seat rail.

Much neater than having that 2.5 pounder 'rolling around' in the back seat area!

My wife's 68 912 caught fire and was destroyed, after that I installed a FE in my 911SC, but never needed it.

IMHO it is insurance, you hope to never have to use it, but boy if you need it, you will be glad you have it.

g_murray, I hope I'm not stepping on your toes and don't mean to but, is that a CO2 fire extinguisher with a plastic valve and nozzle? If so, it may be o.k. for kitchen fires but not for automotive use. BTW, CO2 will mess up a car so bad, you might wish you'd have just let it burn. Please invest as much in the extinguisher as you have in the mount. Get a HALON or HALOTRON with a metal nozzle and valve. Hopefully, you'll never have to use it, but if you do, it won't melt!

As far as our cars are concerned is there a difference between the HALON and HALOTRON. I understand that HALON is ozone depleting for 400 years! vs less time (1-10 years) for HALOTRON, but from a car safety/fire extinguishing perspective any difference?

wheeze, HALON is much more effective than HALOTRON in extinguishing a fuel fire, but they charge almost as much for the stuff. When it comes to my car, my family, me or anyone in need on the side of the road, I'm not going to worry about the Ozone layer. For those interested, I'd suggest seeking out a fire extinguisher supply and re-filling company that re-cycles HALON. Stop by and ask them to explain the effectiveness of HALON for fuel and electrical fires. I just had the seal replaced on one of my 2-1/2 lb. bottles that had a slow leak and re-filled. It cost me just under $100 but well worth the peace of mind.

Thanx NC Trackrat ...I'll look into this.
(FWIW, bought the extinguisher in Pepboyz.)
