FDM--do you know if the film is UV stable?
yes, exposure to UV is my theory also... but I have dealt with some low mileage cars that have hada lot of garage time and still very difficult to remove the original material. That kinda shot holes in my theory though I am sure it is still a factor.

Q. Does 3M Paint Protection Film resist yellowing?
A. Yes, it resists yellowing because the film is constructed of thermoplastic urethane, a tough, conformable material that is covered by a clear coat layer. The film and clear coat layers contain UV protectants to counteract harmful ultraviolet rays that can cause yellowing.

I would also add that this is the same product Porsche now uses when you order clear guards from the dealer.

My understanding is that the 3M film itself is resistant yellowing due to UV exposure but also allows UV to pass through so the paint fades evenly. This is especially important when it's used on the front deck lid which gets blasted with UV.

There is a before/after of Darin's Polar Silver car on our site... from colored to clear. I will post here when on my office PC tomorrow. The difference is pretty drastic.

Keep in mind Darin's were old but still, the color of the guard doesn't match the paint color.
Hope that helps!
Yep, that's a big help. I was afraid I'd have to go with the colored ones. Looks like I'll be placing an order soon.

UV can not only has the potential to 'yellow' the film but also affect the adhesive overtime making removal difficult/messy.

obviously there's a balance to how agressive an adhesive should be per application.

regardless, i'd want to verify the film is UV stable before i put it my car (not to imply this product is not).

btw, the after shot looks pretty good.

agreed! and my point was that even though a 993 had not been exposed to as much UV as others I had done, it was still a pain to remove them.

Oddly enough, others which had obviously been out and about more were easy to remove.

Hardly solid statistical analysis but I am having a tough time seeing a pattern.
Again, no doubt UV exposure plays a factor in the glue and color

If you can find another 14mil ppf material out there I'd sure like to hear about it.

I know of no other manufacturer that makes 14 mil material. 3M appears to be it.

This was exactly my experience as well. Good stuff, thanks to you guys for carrying these.

I'll post all the detals Friday. I can safetly order some bits-already got the gauge rings coming from Chris, and the stone guards are generic kinda too.

The car is a 97 C4S, I'm not comfortable or confident enough to say more until it's in my driveway, as anything can and will usually happen. Been talking with the owner for a couple of weeks now. A very nice, solid car, good history, at an honest dollar. Ohhh, and did I say...from a fellow rennlister.

The week can't go by fast enough.

How about a Group Buy on the Fister III exhaust with big tips?

Anyone else interested?
