component speakers opinion? Boston, Infinity
I just want some basic components to replace the crappy factory components. anyone have any input on sub $200 pairs. some that catch my attention:
Boston Acoustics S60
BA SX60
Infinity Reference
Infinity Kappa
I have the BA 4x6 in the rear. I have the Hi-Fi- option.
FYI, I will probably try to just drive these with a head unit and no amp for now.....

A couple sites I would say to check out:
www.sonicelectronics.com
www.woofersetc.com
www.diymobileaudio.com
with just head unit power, make sure you get a set with good efficiency.

Infinity is generally very bright and, to my ear, and Kappa can be simply shrill. BAs have several different sets that some people like and some not so much (I happen to like BAs).
Having said that I'm currently putting Focals in my cab. They are replacing Kenwood 5.25" separates that I'll have available very cheap if anyone wants them and the woofer fits the Hi-Fi enclosure. They are better than stock Nokia, of course, but that's not saying much. BAs wold sound better, obviously. I can probably also put together a set of a/d/s separates for sale, also fairly inexpensive. Those are good old school speakers for those who remember a/d/s.
PS. Didn't mean to make it sound like an ad. You can disregard everything past the first paragraph
PPS. Friar93, I see that you are local in Boston. If you'd like to rummage trough what I have and listen to the Kenwood or Focals once they are in, let me know.

I too don't care for the Infinity's, too much high freq. not enough mid or low.
I really like the Polk db491 (?) for the rear shelf speakers, very nice for the price/location.
I have JL Audio's for the fronts, not bad for the price and the crossover isn't too big as some have proven to be.
The setup is not audiofile quality but far better than stock and about $250 for the full setup.

Sound is very objective, what appeals to me, might be extremely harsh to someone else, just a musical tastes vary, so do our opinions of speakers.
having said that, both Infinity and BA are good speakers, both have different lines in different price ranges as well. They will also sound different. They will also sound different in the store than when they are mounted in your car. so, while I do recommend listening to lots of speakers to see what you like, keep in mind, you will only be able to say, I like speaker A better than speaker B, but do not expect speaker A to sound the same in the showroom as in your car.
stick with a quality speaker, so you don't have to replace then too often, give it a clean source, and decent power (good speakers generally use MORE power, and will sound awful if driven insufficiently)
and you will be happy.
DO NOT spend a ton on speakers and then skimp on the amp, or the source, your system will only be as good as the weakest link.
Also: a bad installation can ruin good components and make then sound awful.
Of the speakers you listed, pick the one that 1. fits and 2. sounds the best to you, both are quality brands that will be around.

I had a pair of TN-52 tweets and K2 crossovers. Picked up a set of 165KF components today locally off Craigslist. Will have to decide whether to go with TN-52 tweets or the KF's tweets (they are smaller) and which crossover to use. Will use 6.5" woofs from the KF set. But need to clean out my door situation and build a plate for woofs first.

I found Polk Audio db491 speakers to be a good value replacement for the dried up Nokias a couple of years ago now.
