I'm sorry, but I can't be the only one that thinks a 993 is just an amazing car, regardless of the seats.

Relaxing the leather with Lexol or some other leather conditioner will help make the leather more supple and possibly reverse some of the shrinkage you noted. By deep, I mean soak them overnight and repeat the application a few times.
What Louis said. Seats on my 95 did this when I got the car. Regular leather treatment has solved the problem. Mine only "pop out" a couple times a year at the most, this on a 15 year old, 80,000 mile car.

+1 on soaking them in Leatherique rejuvinator or the Lexol product (no affiliation), that will make the leather much softer.

Regarding the leather coming loose, are there any steel clips holding the leather in place ?
My seats had some small steel clips with claws to hold the leather in place, my guess is if you order a few of these it will solve your problem. Don't have the part no but I am sure they are available from Porsche.

Edit : found the clips, part no : 999 507 526 01 clamp (6 pcs for each seat)
To be found on illustration 807-20 here : http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf...SA_KATALOG.pdf
The Velcro's holding the center padding are also available, check illustration 807-22

Regarding the smoke smell it can be removed with a ozone treatment, a ozone generator in your car for a couple of days will kill the smell.
The down side is that you will have ozone smell in your car for two to three weeks, but it WILL disappear. I have ozone treated several cars and always with good results

that is indeed the money shot...!

Harlan, the short answer is "not yet".

Longer answer - I have found plenty sports seats overpriced for their condition. I would expect to pay $4-5k for a really pristine set. But the $3k or so for some of the sets out there is overpriced for their condition. The other thing is that the more I look, the more I am drawn to the more dimunitive look of the RS style sports seats for a narrowbody car. Not that the regular hardbacks look bad in a narrow car (look at the gorgeous pics above), but I like the RS style as much or more. If I decide to go that route, I might go replica -- becuase there are a couple really good providers of TUV-certified quality copies in Germany that look extremely close to the original....at a very reasonable price.
