Default "Tasteful" Upgrades Question

OK, this may get some good responses. A recent post on a car for sale got me to thinking.

Starting point--totally stock 993 C2 or C4 (non-wide body). As for options, that's a bit of a tar baby, so let's just presume no "significant" options included (e.g: exhaust, suspension, etc.) leaving a car we can do up ourselves after we purchase it from a dealer or private seller. Car and interior color shouldn't come into play here.

Please weigh in on what you'd propose as "tasteful" (maybe a short shifter, or wheels and tires, or exhaust mods, or a 3-spoke steering wheel, etc.). Dropping a turbo engine into a C2, for instance, might not qualify since that can be purchased in a turbo. Turbo-look mods might be appropriate such as wheels or brakes, although some may see a GT3 rear deck as too much. Obviously not a rigorous set of rules here, but I think you all get the idea.

Let the games begin.

I think Macca did a very nice job of listing out the best upgrades/modifications in his recent thread:

Sounds like your worried what other people think Dan. Do what YOU Like, just no Lambo doors

This is what it looks like when the Porsche Technik catalog pukes on a car. But "I" liked it!

Not every ones taist, but mine!

I have done quite a few mods but at the same time, I want to keep the original look. Im not one to do body mods-- RS this, Turbo that, ect.

I just bought another set of Cup II wheels last week. One set I have refinshed and the other set---oh dear God dont let me say this.....I might start playing on the track a little. I have ADD when comes to hobbies and past times.

Installing factory option items, parts from newer models or non-visible upgrades including engine mods are all within my style. I tend to spend the money on function rather than aesthetics but do admire what other people have done with their cars.

Any factory Porsche part upgrade is a +, you can't go wrong with stock parts!

Besides what was stated, you can also do the CDR-220 radio, or TP head unit.

Really if you buy quality parts, & keep a theme going, you should be fine.

We all know the types of mods that are available out there. The challenge to an individual is to pick and choose the mods and create his/her personalized Pcar within his/hers budget. What we think should be irrelevant IMHO.

And that is what makes it fun.

Calvin: Not so much that concern of others but rather I'm a newer guy here and really fishing for some good ideas from a lot of expereinced folks--and I see a lot of good ideas here.

I tend to be a "keep it looking like it looked originally" guy so many of these are right in line with me--and I still respect "to each his own.".

BTW the car looks great--hope to get to see it soon.

I'm from the camp of doing whatever mods you like as long as it sticks with the overall theme of the car.

I'm probably also a prime example of where this mindset has been taken to an extreme.

I think it's all about subtlety.
How about this?

Ruf, Ruf, yeah I know. The wing still looks crazy.

To be serious though, here are my "tasteful" mods:

RS shift kit
FVD 3 spoke wheel
Recaro A8s

I agree with Matt, as long as it is "factory" part it is probably considered tasteful. I prefer the stealth NB look but do appreciate a car like Calvin's that looks more agressive (and tasteful).

+2. My only deviations from Porsche parts are things that they "forgot," like the FPB, Rennline dead pedal (which still looks very "stock") and my Fister 3s. Then there are my Walrod bushings, which I consider to be a restoration-modification.

I'm sure I'm jinxing myself with this, but currently I have no burning urge to do any new projects on the car. Hell, even my resistors are new (thanks, Robin!)

Edit: I knew I forgot something...OK, RS clutch and flywheel if the time ever comes and if my spoiler motor craps out, maybe genuine RS splitters and matching fixed rear spoiler from MA Shaw. But again, either all factory or factory correct look.
