I just looked at mine and it seems to be held in place via a track or clip system on the back...............
Maybe someone who has pulled a 993 interior while building a track car will chime in..............
Good luck...................ZP44

I didn't think this piece comes out. I replaced my vinyl by gently removing the old (which is hard, since it's glued to foam underneath) then gluing in new vinyl. I only did it to change colors.
If you start mangling up the foam, you probably want to just pull of ALL the foam then install a new bit of super-thin foam (like maybe 1/8" thk).

That whole panel comes out. You got to remove the rear shelf & you will see the screws holding it in. Then there is a track on the top that keeps it tight on the window.
Remove rear shelf
remove screws/bolts
pull up to release the track.

Are you sure you're talking about the same piece that's in the picture? This is the vertical piece on the door jam.
This isn't a piece of the rear package shelf..this is attached to the door jam and isn't removable, the vinyl

Just leave it alone, it is glued on and you will screw it up if you try and remove it. Call your local leather doctor... call your P-car dealer or wrench and ask who does their custom leather dying. It is very inexpensive to have it colored.
See photo of my 1987 911 below. After it was dyed to match the new leather and vinyl, you could not tell the difference.
