I was checking the oil level this afternoon and noticed the adhesive/glue is starting to let go on the engine sound pad. The fasteners are still doing their job however. What must I do to get it to adhere again? Is there a special type of glue or adhesive?

I think this is just a normal part of aging. My cab was doing it and the turbo is doing it. Other 993s I have looked at have the same problem. I think it is more cosmetic that anything else.

I keep looking at it and thinking there's got to be a better solution. I'll replace mine when and if I need to pull the engine, but I'm assuming the replacement part from Porsche is the same material and will eventually break down just like the old one. It's frustrating because when you look at the insulators used on modern cars today, they don't seem to suffer from the same problems ...

These always break down eventually. The biggest problem is removing all the old glue to get a good stick for the new sheet.
Now replacing the rubber pads on the boat... luckily, it is very airy coz the quantity of acetone needed is .... too much. No smoking + all batteries disconnected

A 1" x 1/8" x 4 ft aluminum strip is about $2 from Lowes.
Cut to length, mark and drill holes, then use the existing plastic nuts and metal studs to secure it on the sound insulation to hold it up. makes a tidy job.
This supposes that your insulation is not already disintegrated.
I never found any glue that would hold.

No glue ... use an aluminium 'bow' to support the leading edge of flaccid foam .... see here .... works for 964's, so if your 993 is ready for a prosthesis , go for it ...
