Default Quick fix for falling foam

While I had my airbox off to do the shocks I made a quick and easy fix to the foam falling from above the engine. From what I understand it takes a engine drop to replace this. Mine was ok except at the front edge so I bought a piece of 1 1/2" x 1/8" aluminum bar at Home Depot for about $8. I cut it to about 30" long but this can vary. I bent it to approximatly the curvature of the mounting area. Use something round like a pipe and you will get a better bend. I lined it up and marked the hole locations and drilled the bar about 1/2" in with a 1/4" drill bit. I elongated the holes to get a better fit. I will probably take it off and paint it flat black and nobody would know it wasnt suppose to even be there. Easy 30 minute fix until and engine drop.

Definitely a good idea. My foam is starting to do the same thing and it sucks! I wanted to just rip it all out the other day as I looked at it, but I managed to control myself. Maybe I'll try this idea instead.

Hey Geoff I was visiting on the dark side and somebody was having the same problem on their 993 so taking a big chance on getting jumped on I shared this old thread I did. I sent it to Brian also just incase the forgotten ones over here might find it in our DIY area. Actually looks alot better now after I smoothed out the curves and sprayed it a mat black.

Jim, can you describe or post another pic on the method of fastening the aluminum strip? Did you screw it in place or did you use the 4 metal tabs poking through the strip? I plan to do this clever mod soon.

I used the existing studs and plastic nuts.

Sorry to ask what may be an obvious question, but I finally got the aluminum bar to do this, and the plastic mushrooms seem impossible to budge. Are they screwed in place somehow? Or do they just pop off with appropriate application of force? The foam is so close to disintegrating I'd rather put as little stress on it as possible...

Excellent idea, I actually thougt of the same idea but I am looking for a black plastic profile that could fit with a small short L-profile on the edge.
This is really a good thread which could be a fix to many cars with an otherwise healthy insulation.
