Default Insurance Costs

I just got a quote for the Silver Wheels classic car insurance for $345/yr! The car has to be 15 years old and have no major engine mods. This is for $2M liability, $40k insured value, $1000 deductible and there must be an appraisal. Its great having a classic!

Definitely a great program: I've been on this policy for several years ( with 928's and BMW) - my '96 has to wait until next year, but will enjoy the 70% rate reduction ...

yep. I don't believe that there is glass coverage but I don't usually buy it anyway.

Interesting. Any limits on use or mileage?

Depending on car, not having glass replacement could be pretty costly on some classics. One of my cars had a rock shoot up and crack the glass. The windshield, its trim, and labor to install it would have been $4,500 out of my pocket if I did not have glass coverage. So be careful.

Also, when you say its $2m liability, does your coverage also include $2m in coverage for underinsured or uninsured?

Best regards,
Dino

I can't say if there are comparable policies available in the US. You would think so. I guess our cars are only just becoming classics according to the auto insurance biz. I've had muscle cars the last 10 years so I'm accustomed to the low premiums.

Windshields run around $1000 up here for the 993. I've rarely carried coverage over the last 30 years and have fared well.

You're definitely a luckier guy than I am. This morning the 3rd of our 4 cars had its windshield cracked by a rock that shot up on the highway...and thats over a period of 6 months! Maybe I should move, as my roads haven't been very car friendly.

Best regards,
Dino

Vampires! I just dumped State Farm because I got a quote from Liberty Mutual that cut my insurance costs in half for the cars and the house for the exact same coverage. The 993 went from $1100 to $480/yr! So much for rewarding loyalty. When I inherited my parents house and cars they had been insured by State Farm since 1939, so they just lost a 70 year customer. When financial advisors tell you to shop around for insurance once a year they know what they're talking about.

To these guys loyalty is a one way street. I always shop around once a year to see if other companies are offering better deals.

Matt, great info!

Is there any limits on yearly mileage, or commuting to work?
