Awesome, just did mine last week. Did you pull off the heat exchangers or just work around them?

I was just quoted a price of $300 for installing new lower valve covers. Is that a decent price for this install?

it didn't take us very long - for that much labor, you might just buy the tools and DIY

I look at it differently...for only $300 if they will do that, probably worth it unless you really consider yourself a wrench. If you've just changed your oil and are looking for the next thing up, this isn't hard, but some of the bolts are hard to get to and sometimes hard to loosen. For $300 I wouldn't have messed with it (I did 1 side only)

that's true, but this really is not a difficult repair. You need a 1/4" rachet, a 5mm allen socket that you cut down to the same length as the short part of a standard L shaped allen wrench, and the L shaped allen wrench. remove the rubber boot between the heat exchanger & the heat tube, disconnect the spark plug wires, and take out the 11 allen screws. there are only 2 screws that are trickly to get at, and if the socket won't fit, the L wrench will.

if you can change the oil & filters on a 993, you can do this. $300 can go for a lot more fun stuff than this labor

$300 for labor is a fair price for this job. IMHO

That 5mm allen socket was not cut down, it is just a snap on stubby allen socket 1/4" drive :O)

Has anyone experienced stripping any of those allen bolts? If so, how did you get them out?
