Mike - these droolingly beautiful photos are terribly upsetting - that should be my car!

I appreciate the tips about the top - I'll pay attention to that. The Porsche will likely be replacing an '01 330CiC, so your reference to the difference in tops is particulalry helpful (though the 330 just this year started to leak wher the top meets the A-pillar meets the driver's window, so I'm less enamored with it than usual.)

Here is my VMC story.

Called VMC on 2/20/2013 asked about a red 95 993, was told it was there in stock.
Commercial flight and rental car acquired.

Arrived 2/21/2013 was informed that car had been sold weeks ago.
Looked at other cars in the lot. I drove 3 different cars.
Decided to buy a 1996 993 with 66k miles.
This car drove great, but had been repainted years before.
Had a small area of the fender that had been reworked.
The magnet I carried showed no bondo. Had new tires and service completed.
Autocheck showed clear title, 3 owners.

Maintenance history and books were provided.
I was able to negotiate the very high price but still a little too much.
I was in no means pressured into the purchased of this vehicle.

I have done some work on this car and its very easy to work on.
Its been a great car and runs great!
Clear title in hand.

September 13 2014 decided to trade on a newer Carrera S.
That dealer used Carfax not Autocheck to check my car.

My Carfax report showed "Salvaged".
I also found out the maintenance books for my car were not for my car!
My fault for not noticing?

Contacted Robert Neal. Very elusive with his answers.

I contacted the National Insurance Crime Bureau (www.nicb.org).
I was informed Carfax was correct and Autocheck in error.

My only complaint is the vehicle was advertised as a clean Carfax, but I was provided with an Autocheck report. Also the maintenance book issue.

Many emails later I have started the process of filing complaints.
I don't expect much.

I have a friend who purchased a 993 five years ago from VMC and its been a great car.
Buyer Beware!

Here we are ,almost 5 years between posts and they are still playing the same games. A month ago, there was a guy over on the "Bird" who despite the search he had done was going to fly down to look at a (must have) car. When I asked him why, in spite of all he had heard, he was going any way. His response was priceless, He told me "every one deserves a second chance"

My car came from Victory almost nine years ago, and it turned out to be awesome. So long as you are an informed buyer and do your due diligence thoroughly, you'll be alright.

Good advice Ed, however "polar silvers" experience is, by far more the norm than yours.

Not everyone who picks up a rattlesnake gets bit either, but I'd highly recommend avoiding doing so

Well-honed bait & switch on their part. I would have been on the next flight home.

I suspect that not everyone who buys a good car from them posts on RL just the same as not all bad deals get posted. However, after all the reports of bad deals, and more critically the reported instances of them holding paperwork back when owners have problems would cause me to look elsewhere. When I experience Dealers that advertise vehicles they don't actually have in inventory I would be like Andreas, I couldn't leave that dealership fast enough. But that's just me, obviously others don't object to the practice or dealers would have stopped that game long ago.

I was trying to buy a car from them about 2 years ago. I spoke to Robert - gave him the VIN and description via e-mail that i wanted to it was in writing. Got a quote, called back to purchase and the price went up 10K... this guy is a world class DB.
