What has been your most difficult 993 DIY?

It's not on a 993, since I've never had to do much more than engine/transaxle; but headlight installs on slope nose conversions was the most tedious thing I've even done on 911's. Ring and pinion setting or porting heads are less of a headache.

I'm kinda cheating here, since I'm a mechanic...
...but this SAI/guides/valve job took me the longest...
The SAI port after cleaning...
Valve on the right is cleaned and bead blasted (left is after being cut)
During reassembly... I didn't split the case or pull the pistons off the rods..

Didn't have to do a lot of repair to the (former 993 Cab) but I would have to say it's a tossup between
- sparkplug wire set replacement (done before I found out about lowering the engine and lifting the intake)
- front bumper cover R&R (getting those seals lined back up was a PITA)
- 4 times having to remove the Cab Top Controller (laying on your back trying to get to those nuts up under and behind the left side of the dash is a PITB (back))
Biggest PITA I can remember was replacing a couple of the front suspension arms on the BMW 840. It had tapered shafts I had to get off (for re-use) and they just didn't want to come out. I think it took 3 cans of "keyboard air cleaner" (you turn the can upside down to freeze the daylights out of whatever you're spraying) alternating with a mini-torch and several tie-rod type tools to break them free. What a bit$h.

I was thinking that a steering rack R&R in an AWD car was a winner for me .... but conceed that honour to pulling the starter: the top (invisible) barrel nut was seized on the case stud ... only started to shout "eureka" when getting it loose - to find that the starter motor flange ring was corroded into the bellhousing: a piece of 2x4 and a BFH did the trick .... and they say that Porsches are delicate ...

Stone guard replacement by far! True test in patience. Make sure you have a good soft paint SAFE plastic scrapper from a auto body shop before starting.
Other DIY projects include:
Changing plugs (3 hours) Still need to replace top right 3, air filter (K&N hard to fit), brake and clutch slave fluid bleed (2-3 hours), replacing caps and rotor (3 hours) would have been quicker but I mixed up the plug fire order, cleaning MAF and ISV valve (1 hour), adjusting ISV valve so idle was at 800 and sorta smooth (at least 5 adjustments of 20 min each), pollen filters (easy), replace hi-fi speakers, head unit and amplifier with quality pieces (several days and plenty of time and $), Transmission fluid change (2 hours), only because I have a POS hand pump.
Who could guess how much the dealer would have charged for the above work? Only thing I would pay for in retro are the stone guard replacement.

Probably the suspension work. For two reasons:
1. Getting that stupid front sway bar out of an AWD car
2. It was my first time disassembling my car... so I had to overcome nerves.

Pss10 instal...pretty easy although time consuming. Front control arm bushing R/R...I will NOT do that again!
Third brake light multibulb replacement...1 hour and easy.
Pollen filter, 20 minutes.
Cayman S work...Intake plenum replacement, 1 1/2 hours. Headers and exhaust...1 hour easy.
Brake pad replacement...super easy.
The best thing about DIY? Sense of accomplishment and pride of workmanship, a few new tools everytime I DIY.

I have only done a few DIY things and get zero pleasure of working on cars.
1. replaced a fog light
2. removed stone guards
Made an attempt to figure out an alarm system yesterday. Instead, ripped and replaced with a new Viper 350 Plus---but I didnt do it.
