Australian Speeding Penalty--Follow-up
Just a follow up on my earlier post regarding the Camera Detected speeding penalty I got in Australia.
Recieved a letter from:
New South Wales Goverment
State Debt Recovery Office
Fines Division of Office of State Revenue
Went on line and paid my $84AUS fine as easy as could be.

Thanks to all of you for your opinions and suggestions.

Ironic opinion with the character quote in your sig...I'm just sayin' Everyone's integrity has a price. Mine is north of $84. I think the OP was leaning toward paying even before the notice came.

Now look for something like this in the mail....
The Office of State Revenue of New South Wales would like to thank you for your donation. That brings our bank balance to $248.56.
The NSW Police Department go to a lot of effort to find good hiding places for officers with their speed cameras or radar/laser guns to catch unsuspecting motorists, it would have been a shame for all those resources to be rendered useless.
They have begun a complete review of procedures in airport security to make sure that in future, the perpetrators of such serious offences are not able to leave the country before paying for their crimes.
PS - They knew where you live and may or may not have "Friends" in low places... nudge nudge - wink wink - say no more

I agree. If it makes one feel better, then pay. As for my experience, they will never see my 'camera speeding' fine money. Not a chance. They 'robbed' me once already at the airport on the flight out with some airport taxes or dues that were totally unannounced. You pay or you don't leave!! They obviously felt the $10,000 my wife and I spent on vacation in Australia was not enough. Well I have news for them, we won't be back to spend another $10k. Beautiful country, great people but a socialist government grabbing every single dollar they can. Never again!

Three Wheelin'
Contrast this with a story my next-door neighbor (Bill) told me a while back.
Whilst vacationing in Ireland, he, ahem, mixed up kilometers per hour with miles per hour.
He had himself, the missus and the two sons in the rent-a-wreck when he got pulled over by the 'Gardai' (Gaelic for Police).
The Garda (Gaelic for Policeman) listened to his story whilst writing out the ticket ...but it fell on deaf ears.
A couple of days later, Bill went to the local Garda station to pay the fine.
The Garda on duty noticed Bill's accent and they both started yammering about 'relatives' and why he was back 'home' and the relatives (of the Garda who had emigrated to the States a long time ago, etc.)
The Garda then said "Hold on a sec." and went back to talk to the Sergeant... ...then came back and said to Bill:
"Glad to have you back, hope you are enjoying your stay... ...please come back again ...oh and by the way... ...no need to pay the fine - just watch your speed and the SIDE of the road (left / right) that you drive on ...and keep that 'ticket' as a souvenir."
