Default Anyone know a Transmission guy?

Any of you here ever hear of a guy names Joe Cogbill in Georgia? We have a friend with a mid 80's 911 who wants to send his car to him to have transmission work done on his car and asked If I'd ever heard of him. I don't think I have although somehow something rings a bell. Anyway, He is advising him to fix his car and stay away from the 'junk' newer Porsche's. Whatever..... Robert isn't here so I can't ask him.... Anyone know him or have work done by him, good, great or bad???

JoAnne,
I have no idea of Joe Cogbill's mechanical ability, but I do have some experience with his business practices. I'd advise your friend to stay far, far away from Mr. Cogbill and his company. If you would like more specific comments on my experiences, please PM me offline. Any extensive discussion of Joe or his business (German Auto Dismantlers) on this or other forums usually ends with some profanities and the thread eventually being blocked or deleted.

I've purchased parts from him before.

Based on two transactions, I feel the likelihood exists that Joe Cogbill is friends with Alan Gunn. Dr. Alan Gunn.

In addition to Mark's links, you can also check out the Better Business Bureau file on his business:

Joanne,

I'd have your friend send it to either Chris Cervell aka "Premier Motorsp" or Brian Copans. PM me if you want Chris' cell and email address.

BRIAN!!!! I can't believe I forgot about Brian!!! I worked with Brian and Pam when I was managing Reiser-Callas.

I will tell him about Brian. I have his number.

I believe our Friend found Joe on the internet. He never would have found Brian. Brian is still low tech but he sure knows his stuff.

THANKS!!!!!

Yep, Brian Copans did his magic on my Turbo R transmission this summer. I knew that I had the right guy when he told me that he was looking at some of my gears under a microscope!

Brian is AMAZING. I can't tell you how many times he saved our butts during a race week. You always knew when Bri was around, you could smell transmission fluid! I don't think he or Pam got/get any sleep during race weeks.

I vote Chris Cervelli. Amazing if you let him do his magic and don't skimp on parts. Im sending it back again soon for a full race box. replace all 6 gears. first gear should get me 70 mph. You might need to give me a push out of the pits though. Ill probably have to shift every two seconds but it will always be in the sweet spot...

give Chris a call or e-mail. Great guy. I think I see another trip to Denver in my near future.

I think I Know Joel <See my Signature Below>

Joel is great too I think he's just a little too far away all the way up there in upstate NY for my friend. ALso I think his specialties are more with 993's and newer P-cars. This is an '85 Turbo modified to the 10th degree.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. You guys are great!
