Default 993 crankcase ?!

Searching for 993 crank case - Could not find any on the web. Are they not manufactured new in the aftermarket? Where can one source a new crankcase and how much should it cost?

Aftermarket Porsche crankcases - not likely. You probably have to go the recycler market.

There is an early GT3 crank case for sale on eBay. GT1, GT2, GT3 and Turbo all use more or less the same crank case as the 964 and 993. All 993 crank cases have 964 numbers, even the first years of GT3's had crank cases with 964 numbers on them. The only difference between an early GT3 case and a 964/993 case, is that the GT3 case has the holes for the cylinder head oil return pipes blocked off. These can easily be drilled out to air cooled motor specs, and the oild return pipes.

Thx for your inputs folks. I have been advised to keep a standby crankcase being the one item which could take your car to the brakers sooner than later Therefore I was figure if these are easy to source new!

What are most folks doing anyway being a magnesium alloy part makes it the most vulnerable aspect in the life of a 993! Andreas I have sent you a PM

What's mag? 911 engine cases are Al since the 3.0L's.

Anyway, what do most of us do? Probably not worry about it. But I pick stuff up when I find it cheap. Presently have 3 964 engines, and enough to make 3 or 4 3.0/3.2/3.3 longblocks. Not to mention a couple of 5 speed 964 G50's and a 6 speed.

Your adviser has obviously misled you. The only reason why a 993 case would fail is due to accident damage or terminal engine failure (usually as a result of oil contamination). If your case is that badly damaged by accident that it needs a new one, the bodyshell will not be in much better condition either so the car is going to be scrapped. Service the engine regularly and you will easily avoid the second scenario.

To me, buying a spare engine case for your 993 is like paying in advance for a liver transplant just because you enjoy the odd drink.....
