Default Rear Speaker Replacement Help Needed (Hi Fi)

Guys,

I searched almost every "rear speaker" post and never found an answer to my question. Can someone help out?

- My 1997 C2 has the Hi Fi stereo option, so the speakers on the rear deck have the 'hump'.

- I want to replace the rear speakers with just a bolt-in, no cutting replacement speaker of a higher quality than the Nokia's.

- I want to keep the Porsche OEM 'humped' grill.

- The OEM speakers aren't out yet, but they are a round speaker, about 4.5" in diameter with three mounting tabs. A previous search lead me to buy a Kenwood KFC-4675 4" x 6" set, but it is obviously not going to work without some mods to the grills or rear deck.

Does anyone know a source for a straight bolt-in replacement for these rear speakers? I already did the fronts with a good improvement in sound quality and kept the OEM look. Not looking to change anything else and want to stay stock. I don't use stereo system very often anyway.

Thanks for any help.

Mike,

I don't have the HiFi option, but I used the Oz Audio Vector plates 4x6 in the rear, and they dropped in with no mods, and used the original grills.

Does your car have the basic "no hump" rear speakers? From the looks of mine a 4 x 6 would be too big (maybe I need to measure).

Bart,

Thanks for the two links. Looks like the answer to my question is "Not Available".

Well, the no cutting may be a problem, but you can certainly make something fit. I haven't looked at mine too close, but what about a cheap 4" component set? I was thinking that those rear speakers had an odd impedance too, so be aware of that.

I am not very inclined to replace mine, but if I do, I will have new amplification and speakers.

My advise is not to run rear speakers. You will have a better sound-stage and imaging using just the fronts.

I like the velcro idea.

Apparently Oz Audio is out of business.

This was a "No-cutting" replacement of the rear speakers using the original connectors.

My fabbed covers have been in place for a year and have not budged. Looks completely stock and sounds great.

That DID require dremmeling (cutting) and was a replacement of OE NON-HiFi speakers/grills. The OP is looking for a drop-in replacement round speaker (and possibly tweeter) for his HiFi set. Theyre a 4"-ish speaker with 3 mounting tabs. He just wants to find a better speaker to replace that one in the HiFi grill assemble, keeping that grill with the "hump" but resulting in better sound.

I dont believe anyone makes a good small speaker with 3 mounting tabs like that so unfortunately, I doubt there is that simple of an option... BUT, those other options are really not difficult. Literally spending an hour with a dremmel can make anything possible, LOL.

Re: HiFi option #490 rear speaker enhancement.

There's a suitable 4 inch mid-woofer which starts life as a center channel OEM Volvo/Dynaudio speaker. As for a replacement tweeter (3/4 inch)?? Vifa makes a nice quality ring radiator type which would sonically fit the application nicely. A nice sonic enhancement would be gained from incorporating a true frequency crossover network; nothing complex however a true XO and not the simple capacitor used.

There's are a few straight forward 2-way and or 3 way active enhancements to be made of the HiFi options (#490) door enclosures, coupled with new electronics which will make you forget any rear speaker positions. There stealth, loud, clear and dynamic.
